Hi

I am having my second sweep today (9 days over), if nothing happens i will be induced on thursday.

I really want a waterbirth as everything I've read or been told about them is that the water really helps to relax you through contractions, I'm a little worried though that if I'm induced i wont be allowed a waterbirth?!

Has anyone had a waterbirth after being induced? or does anyone know if i will be allowed one?

Hello, I asked this at our labour class last week and was told no :( It might vary between hospitals though!

My hospital didn't allow water births if you were being induced, I think that's quite common.

Yeah afraid not, you have to be constantly monitored so wouldn't mix with the water x

i wasn't allowed one :(
it's all the monitoring you have to have.

Why do you have to be induced? I understand 9 days over is alot but I would trust that your body knows what its doing and if you want a waterbirth I would wait it out

I think it depends on your hospital, I was induced and FOUGHT for the right to be able to remain active, upright and as 'natural' as I could be., I got the Dr to agree prior to the induction starting, that if my body kicked into gear by itself after the first process of the induction (which for me was the pessery cap thingy) then I could continue on as a normal labour/delivery.

Thankfully my body did kick into gear. I needed no drip or additional hormones, my waters went by themselves, and I dilated quickly and without further assistance. Because of this I was able to use the bath and then the pool. (with a little white lie to the MW on duty as well. ;) ) I refused constant monitoring. and came very very close to having a water birth. Unfortunately I had to get out at the last minutes as they were unable to find a heartbeat as they weren't looking low enough. so he was born on the bed. but the labour was as close to what I wanted it to be if it hadn't of been for the induction.
