Hi everyone! I know I haven't posted much on here lately, but I just wanted to announce that our little man came early and is happily at home now with us.
My water broke on Sept. 1 at 3:15am when I got up to pee, and then I decided to soak in the tub to see what happened next. I lost alot more fluid (you can see that cheese stuff they always talk about that covers the baby floating in the amniotic fluid) and my bloody plug. I had some very mild contractions and texted my mom to let her know. I wanted to let my husband sleep as long as possible. By 6am, I decided it was time to go and when I went to wake him up, he thought I was kidding. I called the hospital to be sure if I should wait until the contractions get harder, but they were 4 to 5 minutes apart. They really didn't feel worse than gas pains then.
Once we got to the hospital, about 20 minutes later, contractions were 3 minutes apart, but still very light. My husband dropped me off at the door and the security saw me waddling his way and ran to open all the doors for me
. He was almost as hectic as my poor husband! I waddled down to the labor and delivery area and said, well, I think I'm in labor. They had me change into a gown and lie down in a labor room so they could check my membranes to see if I had indeed broken my water. I did, and was already at 2cm, 70% effaced. They hooked a couple of monitors up to my bump, so they could hear both our heartbeats I guess. The nurses called my OB and she ordered an ultrasound because I wasn't due until Sept. 20. And she was on her way in. The nurses gave me pitocin to speed up contractions and oxytocin for pain. Once the oxy hit my system, the rest of labor is really a blur. That stuff is intense! I don't remember the ultrasound tech coming in and doing his thing, but my husband has the photos to prove he was there. I started to come too around noon, and the pain was very very intense. Every contraction was like I was going to explode from the inside. My husband said I kept rolling onto my side, and I'm wondering if my rolling forced my little one to roll also, because he was face up inside my womb. I told my poor husband, sitting beside me, to get the nurse because I HAD to push. One of the girls ran in to check me and asked what number I wanted to be dialated to... of course, I said 10... and she said indeed I was! So the unstrapped me from all of the monitors and watching the ceiling as they rolled me into the delivery room was still a bit fuzzy. I just remember being so thankful that I would be able to push! Not pushing was the hardest thing I've ever experienced. Luckily my OB showed up just in time to help me start pushing. They put my legs up on those stirrup things and a sheet across my knees. I couldn't tell you how many times I pushed, but it seemed like alot. Every contraction, I pushed as hard as I could 3 times while breathing thru it. My husband kept laying wet washcloths on my head and cheering me on. Finally, the nurses all cheered and I heard that little cry. Next thing I knew, there was a tiny pink and blue bundle on my chest and I was in instant love.
He was born at 12:30pm at 6 lb 11 oz and 19" long. Since his face was up, the doctor had to reach in and manually turn his head. I felt intense pressure. I had to have a serious episiotomy and a vaginal packing for hemorrhage. We stayed in the hospital for 2 days, but our little man had to stay an extra day for some time under the heat lamp for his jaundice. Now we're all home and healing and in awe of the whole experience.
