weight gain whilst BF

i think i might be feeding katie too much!! she was a very big girl when she was born (9lb12) and every time she cries she ends up on the boob. at first she wouldnt take a dummy, havent tried it on her recently. at 5 days she'd dropped to 9lb2, at ten days she was 9lb10.5 and at 14 days she's up to 10lb!!

when she's screaming i dont know what else to do except put her on the boob, but i know its not the best thing to do!!

I walways did the same thing when Bren cried at that age and he is just fine with his weight. Babies like to gain as much as they can and then level off.

You cant over feed a BF baby. I've learnt over the weeks to recognise hungry crys from windy, tired, bored etc. She might not always be hungry bit obv the boob will sooth her. Try everything else first - if I think Hebe cant be hungry already I put her in the sling and she settles.

Hungry crying is relentless and random and sometimes fades and starts again. Not sure how reliable that is but I read it in a book! Also breast milk digests so quickly so she might just be hungry. I spent three nights with Leo where he was crying for ages and I thought it was colic. I was convinced he wasnt hungry as I had fed him in the last 30 mins/hour but he was hungry none the less!

jack was the same at first. like mervs mum said u cant overfeed a breastfed baby the milk adpats to the babies needs. now jack can go 2-3 hours without the boob and has leanrt to comfort himself x
