How do you measure your total weight gain for pregnancy? I am 25 weeks and have lost 16 pounds, but I feel like that will change at my next appointment. Do I use my pre-pregnancy weight as the starting point for total weight gain or do I use my lowest weight? I am considered overweight/obese. I am supposed to gain less than 15 pounds. Does that mean I can gain back to 1 pound less than pre-pregnancy or 15 more than pre-pregnancy?

They usually go with your prepregnancy weight, or your weight at first appointment.

I was about 222 before pregnancy (roughly, I didn't weigh myself alot), at my first appointment though, they had me at 225 (which I know they are using for the basis of my weight gain/loss). That was at 8w1d. I'm now 16w2d, and I have been holding steady at 215 the last few weeks. My doctor hasn't really given me a weight gain limit, but I personally don't want to gain more than 20lbs.

For you it would be up to 15lbs from prepregnancy weight.

I was told when I was trying to loose my post babyweight to go off my actually pre-pregnancy weight, not what my lowest weight was.
(Back story: I lost 10 kgs due to sever morning sickness, when I gave birth I was only 2 kgs more then my pre-pregnancy weight. Had I needed to get back to the lowest weight I would have had to loose 12 kgs)

Best talk to your health care provider especially about diet and exercise that is appropriate to your situation now. In the mean time if you stick to vegitables, lean meats and water until your next appointment you probably* won't do any damage to you or your baby.

*I don't know if you have any prior diet restrictions so if my advice conflicts with this please disregard my advice as I'm not a health care proffessional.

At my last dr. appointment, before getting pregnant, I weighed around 247. At my first prenatal appointment, I weighed 223. (I was put on Synthroid and the weight just fell off.) At my last appointment (3 weeks ago) I was 207. I am hoping to not go above 225 honestly, but I feel like it's about to pile on. That might be a little unrealistic though. I have been trying to eat smaller, more frequent and nutritious meals. I had the glucose screening at 18 weeks and passed it. I have another one next week, if I pass it, the dr. said I don't have to take it again. I have PCOS and they assumed I would get GD is why I had one early.

My understanding is that every pregnant women should be getting it at 18 weeks as baby starts to put on the weight at about 24 weeks, so if your only finding out that you have GD at 26 weeks or later you've already had 2 or more weeks of baby putting on to much weight. And I don't know about you, but I don't know a lot of people who can change their diet over night to be GD friendly.

:hugs: A little bit of weight gain will be fine.
