Weight to height proportion and head size affect crawling?

I'm wondering if there's a correlation between head circumference percentiles and crawling as well as weight percentiles and crawling. For example, my daughter was in the upper percentiles for weight (75th ish) but fairly proportionate to her height percentile (maybe about 85th percentile) but her head percentile was between 10th and 25th. She crawled on the earlier side at 7.5 months.

My son, however, is above 90th percentile for height and about the 50th for weight and has a head percentile that's below 25th. He started crawling before 6 months and mastered it by 6 months. With less weight and a smaller head, it seems that being an early crawler may not be 100% down to his temperament.

Does your baby seem to follow that pattern of head size and weight correlating with when your baby crawled (or hasn't crawled yet)?

All of mine have been around the 50th centile for weight. I have had a tall baby (dd1) a shorty (dd2) and an average height (dd3) and they all have massive heads (at least above the 91st centile)

Dd1 crawled at 9.5 months, dd2 at 6 months and dd3 the day she turned 8 months. All have been early walkers (10, 9, 9.5 months respectively)

I dont think it affected their crawling or anything, but none of them were ever amazing at lifting their heads as newborns. Probably because of the size of them!

My son just started crawling yesterday! His head has always been large (above 90%), weight has been fairly heavy (above 85%), and height has been pretty tall (above 70%).

Hmm! My daughter is 50-75th for weight, around 75th for length and 91st for head ... she crawled at 8.5 months, so right on time really, despite her slightly disproportionate noggin. :P

DS was big all over (95% for weight, 75% for length at that time I think and 90th for head circumference) and crawled at I think 5 months

DD was smaller at 50th for height and weight and 75th for head and seriously never crawled (she went straight into walking at 9 months) she finally decided to crawl at 14 months through a tunnel.

So I think its partly build and partly desire.

Mine still have large heads though

One of my twins is almost exactly the same height as his sister but is over 1kg heavier (12%) and has always had a much bigger head. They both learnt to crawl on the same day! (Despite him being behind his sister on literally everything else)

Hmm. Thomas was 35th for weight and 25th for length with a HC on the 75th. He crawled just before 6 months.

Sophie was about 75th for weight, 15th for length and a HC on the 50th centile. She crawled at 8 months. She also didn't roll until then or cruise till 9 months (Thomas rolled at 13 weeks and cruised at 6 months).

Thomas has always had a much bigger head with a slimmer body than Sophie. His HC is 53.5cm at the mo which is above the 85th line. They both walked at 11 months, Sophie actually a teeny bit before him comparatively.

I don't really think it's strictly related, but sure, skinnier and more lightweight kids probably find it easier to get up and go.

My son has always been a nugget - he was 95th percentile for weight when he started crawling around 8 months, and he's about 50th for height. He also has a giant noggin. I haven't had it measured recently, but it was about 99th back then. It's like a bowling ball. In a photo the other day it looked as big as my head!

My daughter is long and skinny with a neat little head. Probably 95th for length, 45th for weight and 40th for head size. She was off crawling at 5 months. But she's always just been more active in general.

No idea but first crawled at six months and am still waiting for second to crawl. She tries but cannot quite manage it!

My DD has been on 91st for height and weight since a few weeks old (dropped from 99.6th for weight at birth), and has always been on 50th for head. She has a dainty little head, lol.

She crawled a few days before turning 6 months, and walked at 8.5 months.

Ds2 was 98th for weight born but now following 91st.. Not sure about height but again born was in the 91st region.. Head is currently off the charts at 49cm at just 9 months old and hes been crawling since 8 months and standing since 8.5.. DS1 was 8lb 2 born and again 91st length definitely smaller head and crawled at 9.5/10 months.
