Hey, just wondering if anyone's had any really bizarre cravings? I started eating washing powder three days ago, lmfao.... and the weirdest thing is, it tastes really good! Anyone else had anything strange, or am I just a nutter? :haha:

This is quite common, its called Pica (craving non-edible things) tell your midwife or doctor asap and they will try and find out what's causing it so you don't have to eat the washing powder :haha: xx

Yeah that is common, but tell your doctor ASAP and don't keep eating it. You are supposed to substain from going through with your cravings when it is not actaul food. Atleast that is what I was told.

Yea, don't eat any more of it! Can't be good for you no matter how nice it tastes xxx

Um yeah, honey, don't eat washing powder...there's nothing in it that's really safe to eat. :/

Craving non food items is called pica as Pixxie said. It's usually caused by a malnutrition of a certain nutrient. I'd call you doctor or midwife and see what they suggest. Definitely do not continue to eat it though!

I know, probably not the best idea... I've been trying to content myself with just smelling it, lmao. I'll have to mention it to my midwife at my next appointment, which is next friday, so if I can stay away from doing the laundry until then, I think I'll be ok XD thanks for letting me know what the hell's wrong with me, by the way... I thought I was losing the plot for a while there, lol

Lol don't worry, you're not mad, I ate the lemon fairy liquid in 1st tri  xxx

Lemon fairy liquid??? LMFAO!!! that's hilarious XD i wonder what could be in cleaning products that actually makes pregnant women crave them? :S

That is really weird haha. I know the most common thing pregnant women crave is dirt, chalk, and detergint. That is according to my pregnancy book atleast. I have never craved any of that, but it is very common.

Craving ice is also considered a form of pica, it's a sign of iron deficiency.

I've seen several who say they crave mortar (the stuff they use to hold bricks together).

I get an odd satisfaction out of the smell in Home Depot, or Lowes, or garages. That kind of musty, rock-y smell. If I could eat it, I would. :haha:

i craved sponges really bad with my 1st pregnancy, not the sponges you eat but the sponge you clean with lol.. and i think its coming back again, my mouth waters when i see one!! i loved sucking on them and chewing them, freezing cold ones .. yummaaayy :p .. id defintily steer clear of the washing up powder tho lol x

I have always loved that smell, it smells nice and cold, lol. Glad I'm not the only one, lol. Whenever I tell OH how I love the smell of "cold dusty basement" he just looks at me weird, lmao.

I always have too! I used to lick rocks when I was little to try to eat the smell..somehow. There's pictures of me at age 2/3 in Switzerland licking a cobblestone road.

I'm glad I'm not alone in loving that smell too, I've never met anyone else who had a "thing" for it.

mmmmm the taste of licking a match that has just been lit, and put out of course! :haha:

I have to admit I also used to lick rocks for the same reason when I was little, lol I also used to eat sand by the spoonful :haha:

I never actually tried it but I was quite tempted by the smell of my shampoo

I craved ice pretty much my whole pregnancy, I had the sponge one too which my OH found hilarious. I constantly thought about wanting to eat sand too  never did though lol x
