Friday afternoon I was out with my mom. While we were put I started to slip but didn't think anything of it at the time. I woke up Saturday and my ankle was swollen pretty bad and hurt. I tried to stay off of it and tried heat as well as ice not knowing what it was. It finally dawned on me I think I sprained it pretty bad. Yesterday was horrible as far as the pain. It's not just my ankle that hurts now it's the bottom of my foot as well. It's not really swollen now but still hurts like hell. Since we've moved we have had to change our insurance and I know we would have to pay out of pocket for a visit to anyone other than my ob. I know she won't be able to do much but I called and left a message anyway. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions or tips on something to do. I've kept it wrapped and been icing it since yesterday.

Unfortunately there isn't much else to do for a sprain other than resting it, icing it, keeping it wrapped and elevated. Even if you have torn something(which is a possibility) you would still just have to keep it immobilized. Trust me, I've had a lot of sprains :dohh: With all the scar tissue, the only time I feel them now is if they are severe.
If it doesn't start to feel better within 5-7 days though, you will want to have it checked to make sure it's not fractured.

Still have yet to get a call back. I just want to get it checked out

I'm a physio. If you could walk on it immediately after it happens it is likely not broken. I agree with the other poster about ice, elevation and compression if swollen. However, Rest and immobilization are good in small doses only. I would start doing some gentle range of motion (ie start to move your ankle in all directions) with it overhanging the arm rest of a couch. Try drawing the alphabet with your foot to get things gently moving. Try to move in a pain free range or stay below a 4/10 on a pain scale. Do this without the tensor on 3 times per day. If you can't put your full weight on it try walking on it using crutches (no hopping) to take the edge off then wean yourself off them.
