everybody thought lo had colic but i really didnt but i kept quiet cos i didnt know wot was wrong!

it started about 3 weeks ago and he wouldnt take his bottle properly he'd have about 2oz n then want the rest but cry out after taking a few sips and it hitting his stomach it took 1-2 hours to try and get him to take some more.

i mentioned this when i went to his check-up and the dr said maybe he was lactose intolernat and gave me this really smelly milk to try, which he hated and wouldnt take. so we phoned the out of hours dr cos we were worried he wasnt taking much and was hungry.

the dr made us an appointment that night (thurs) at 9 and the nurse i spoke to was so lovely.
she was doing all these calculations about his weight and said to try gaviscon in his feeds because although he's not a sicky baby (hasnt been sick since he was born) she said he might have silent reflux which means it goes up to his gullet and stays there whcih is causing him pain.
and from the first feed we put it in when we got home hes been a different baby since, takes his feeds in about 15/20 mins and then just sits contentedly.

im so glad we made that appointment i knew it wasnt colic just mothers instinct, we got our happy baby back now!!

Congrats hon, glad you got it sorted out and that L.O. is much happier :) :hugs:

Oh isn't that the best feeling when your able to sort one of their discomforts out!? Well done and yay for mothers instinct!!! :hugs:

I was really interested to read your thread. My doctor thinks my 6 week old has colic, but the Health Visitor thinks he has reflux.

He doesn't spit up and isn't crying....but has had bad tummy pains for a number of days and looks like he is constantly straining to fart - poor mite can't sleep during the day because he is kept awake straining. Yesterday we switched to Comfprt formula (incase it is colic) and today I gave in and decided to try the gaviscon too which I was given on prescription.

I'm glad to hear you've got it sorted and your LO is much happier. xx

JRNH - Glad you got it sorted hun, my LO has silent reflux, it can be really hard to diagnose, glad you got the gaviscon and it works cos its a pain to get prescribed anything else!!

Tanya that sounds like colic to me hun

read this website for the differences between the two

Mirren was showing colic symptoms, but colic symptoms are similar to silent reflux and lactose intolerance and milk protein sensitivity. So I started using cow and gate Soy formula and she was a new baby! so happy and content!
