I love the name Xander, but both our parents frowned on it when we first suggested it, OH's mum says she is coming round to it, but in all honesty i will call the baby what i want. My daughter is called Aria and felt i needed something different to go with her name xxx

i think its your baby you choose the name. i think were not planning on telling anyone un til hubby and i have agreed and the rest will just have to lump it or leave it.

I didn't end up calling my baby what we really wanted to call him because my mum and OH's mum didn't like it and me and OH have regretted it ever since. So go for it hun, definately x

It really does make me more determined to stick with a name i like if everyone else says no lol

lol i know what you mean, i have such a close family that keeping any name we choose a secret would be impossible and probably never going to happen anyways. It just annoys me when they say things like. 'oh no, youll not be calling him that' lol ehhh yeh i will if i want. My mum didn't like Aria and i stuck with that despite her opinion so i will be doing the same for wee Xander! xxx

I say go with what you like. We have been put off loads of names that we've liked because we've mentioned them to MIL and she's turned her nose up . So now I have sworn my husband to secrecy and wont be discussing name choices with anyone (apart from you guys) . The first anyone will hear of lo's name is when we introduce him/her to the world.

All the Xaviers I've known have had "silent" (but not really as it makes a z sound) Xs too. I don't know why they'd ever get "ex" nicknames...do they seriously pronounce it "ex-av-ee-er"!? I really think it's supposed to be either "zav-ee-er" or "zav-ee-é"

I LOVE Buffy! (have the whole series on dvd) I love the name Xander, but we are just so in love with the name we picked (picked when PG with Kathryn and still love it now), if we didn't have a name already Xander would be on our short list for sure!
