What about working out?

So I am in week six and before I found out I was preg. I worked out 5 days a week.... I ran 2 miles then did light weights, abs etc. So Heres my question how much is to much? I know we should still work out but I can't help but want to continue to run and so on but I don't want to hurt the baby either and since I have so long to go to the doc I was wondering what everyone else thinks....:wacko:
 
I do some kind of cardio everyday. I thought you could continue to do whatever or at least most of what your were doing b4 pregnancy during pregnancy. I've heard of women in 3rd trimester doing yoga. :D
 
I asked the mid wife about this yesterday, she said if i usually worked out and was quite fit then to carry it on but not get out of breath, i usually do three miles on my treadmill everyday, she said this fine but not weights.... Just take it easier basically. I have read on net its good to keep up some excercise as you will need the stamina in the labour room!!
 
I will say that working out is becoming more challenging. My body just wants to sleeeeeeep. When I work out i find that I have to take more breaks.

I worked out and lifted weights before my pregnancy also. I don't have my first appointment until December 18th. I'm worried if I weight that long to go to the gym I will gain a lot of weight and be unhappy. Working out makes me feel better. I looked online for what was safe to do. I did find a lot that it said as long as you worked out before it was ok to continue. I keep my heart rate below 140bpm when walking then with the weights I lift lighter and wait longer in between reps. Plus I'm doing less. I feel a lot better after I workout but I am worried that I am hurting the baby sometimes. I just wish my first appt would hurry and get here so I can be sure. IMO waiting for your first appt is worse than the 2WW!
 
I heard working out is excellent for you and the baby, I know a lot of women that still do it well into their 3rd tri. The only reason to worry is if your high risk and your doctor has told you not to do anything active, like me lol. I totally miss it :hissy:
 
It's fine to continue your workout, as long as you aren't over-exerting yourself. Weights should be ok as long as you're using small weights. If you're working out hard enough to be sore you're probably over-doing it. They say sports and activities are fine too as long as it's nothing physically straining or something like Volleyball where you're taking dives and such. Doctors also recommend you don't run too much. Fast-walking is better when pregnant, easier on your hips, and isn't so "jolting". They say not to work out MORE than you did before pregnant, but about the same is fine. When you get further along you'll obviously be doing less at a time anyway (because you'll have that belly in the way and probably be feeling some of that infamous fatigue). I asked the lady at my gym and she said you can do anything that raises your body temperature that much, or anything that stretches your belly.

Although my friend was at the gym and out running everyday until the day she popped! I guess its different for everyone.

Maybe if theres a personal trainer or an attendant at your gym or where you work out you could ask them to do a training plan for you?

Swimming is great too. I didnt realise how good it was until Id done 14 lengths and got out of the pool with my arms and legs feeling like lead.
