What age do you start leaning your toddlers off of naps?

Between 18 and 20 months Maria started fighting her naps really hard and then if she did nap she wouldn't sleep much at night so I stopped her naps then (although she will still nap occasionally now if she's very tired)

Ashley dropping his nap is my worst fear! I need his nap to recharge after a bad night.

Mine is 3 and still needs one. He can go without on a busy day but he will still pass out on the couch by 3 if he doesn't. All kids are different and the nap at 2-3 is one of the biggest differences you'll see.

When they no longer need it, there is no right or wrong age

Leah napped until she was 4
Jack napped until he was 4.5
Lana stopped all naps at 16 months!

I wish when he was younger I hadn't been so quick to keep him awake longer, drop from two naps to one etc. I suddenly reached a point where I realised 'why am I trying to make him sleep less?!' I will keep giving his naps till he consistently refuses them or they interfere with bedtime. My sister says that my nephew was a sleepy boy, he still used to have an afternoon nap after preschool and even at age 4 - 5 when he started full days of school he would still come home at half three and need a snooze before dinner some days. That's my goal in life! :D

My son is just over 25 months and still naps every day for between 2-3 hours and still sleeps about 11 hours a night at least. He gets so very cranky without his nap!! :) The daycare he goes to has a nap time for all kids up til school age. While the kids aren't required to sleep they are required to lay/sit on their cot and have quiet time while those that want to take a nap. I agree with the others who say its really up to the child. If they are the type of kid who gets cranky if they don't nap, I'd let them nap for as long as they need to. I'm sure when they don't need them any more you'll know! Hey even I need naps now and then! If it wasn't for work, I'd be ok with taking one every day!! :haha:

Loius is 26 months and still has a nap mid pm (would nap for hours if I let him, cut it back to 1.5 hours), although on preschool days he doesn't get back home until 1pm so I've stopped his nap those days. If I'm honest though, he does still need his naps most days.

Thomas would nap all afternoon if I let him and then stay up until midnight. Honestly I never thought I would want to be done with naps but I am SOO done with this nap transition. With Thomas it is definitely a weaning process. He gets very grumpy and emotionally erratic if he doesn't nap for a couple of days, so we are letting him nap every second or third day based on how tired he seems. He goes to bed later on the days that he naps so he doesn't get more sleep overall (probably less actually) but he still seems to need a nap at least two or three days a week. He's 3 years 7 months.

Niamh is 31 months and still had between 2-3 hours a day. If she does not have one she gets to 2-3pm and she will have a total melt down.

She askes to go for a sleep most days around 11.
