What are my rights?

Hi Everyone

I currently work part time hours (24 hours a week, which is 3 days 9am - 6pm) I have 2 Daughters, 1 is in school and the other is looked after by my Mam, as if we had to pay for childcare it wouldn’t be worth me working.

My work have asked me to cover holiday leave but my argument is that I don’t have the childcare for me to work extra days. It’s not fair on my Mam to have them as she has her own life. I chose a part time job for a reason.
I’ve said I may be able to do the odd extra cover but it wouldn’t be for a full day.

I’m just wondering if anyone knows what my rights are regarding this??

It depends what’s in your contract. If your contract says you have to be flexible with your hours, then you might have to be, but I can’t imagine that’s the case. I think you’re perfectly within your rights to say no.
