Hi Ladies...

I have never posted in this section before but I think its about time that I faced facts that maybe its not going to happen for us and just needed a bit of advice please....

I am 39...OH is 35 in a couple of weeks anyway we have been TTC for a year now and NTNP for about 4 mths before that, I have had bloods taken on CD21 and CD3 which both came back fine and yesterday we had the results of OH 2nd SA, which wasn't good his total count was 2 million and only 2% were mobile....anyway as I already have a child they won't do any further treatment for us and we really can't financially afford IVF, I meant to ask the FS what the chances of us getting a BFP without treatment, but I forgot to ask.....so after all that what I wanted to know was does anyone know what the chances are of conceiving naturally....I know time is running out for me because of my age, I do ovulate every month...and my CD2 bloods were FSH 7.5 and LH 3.3, FS said that was fine.

Thank you in advance for any answers anyone might have.

hi i am not an expert on this and im hoping someone in here will be able to help you more on the subject but i have heard and read that there is quite a few things your oh can take to improve his sperm,
maca is meant to be one of the best and there are a lot of people who have seen a dramatic rise in count, motility and morph from taking it,
there are also a lot of other vits and stuff to take but like i say im no expert, just think it might be worth looking into, hope this helps a bit :hugs:

Hey Mozz....

We are in similar situation..... i'm 37, OH 34, TTC for 18m then started tests Nov 2009...Me all bloods good, OH count of 1 million with poor motility... had x3 SA and all similar, tried super strength supplement and he had acupuncture for 3m, but sadly no change for us. Think its due to OH having Undecended testicle as a child and mumps and now has a varicocele...If your OH not had any med probs, then def try the vitamins, lots of ladies on here put their OHs on them, so might be able to give you more advice as we get ours via specialist shop, but Zita west does a male supplement, wellman also good, try to get him to cut down on alcohol and smoking if he does either of those and re test in 3m

We were told only chance of us conceiving was with ICSI which we are on waiting list for, but sadly you are right if you have already got a child from prev relationship you are not entitled to NHS....v unfair really xxx

Hiya Hun...
Thank you for your reply, he has been taking zinc for about 6mths, this was his 2nd SA and no improvement, i've seen a good few things about maca, the only thing is he takes blood pressure tablets so will have to look into this before we start that.
Thank you again, and sorry for your loss :hugs:

Hi Dilly,
Thank you for your reply, as far as I am aware OH doesn't have any Medical problems in that department, he is on medication for high blood pressure which is now in a 'normal' range, he has also lost over 2st since his first SA with no improvement, the only thing he takes is zinc which he has been doing for 6mths with again no improvement....he doesn't smoke, we only drink socially occasionally, he wears boxers....looking into him taking Maca just need to know about possible interactions with his BP meds, the only thing FS said was IVF because of the count, forgot to ask about natural conception with his results....:dohh:
Anyway good luck with your ICSI....I hope you'll both have your little baby in your arms very soon...all the best hun and thank you again for your reply.

X

Mozz, did you ask whether the medication for the blood pressure could have an effect? There are supposedly a number of drugs that can have a known effect on sperm.

In regards to chance of natural conception, my FS would tell you that it is highly unlikely. I'm your age, had 2 children before, bloods came back ok. OH 1 st result came back at count 18ml per ml, motility 60%, morphology 4% and he told us natural conception was very unlikely. He was a bit more positive after 2nd test when count went up to 29 mil and morphology 6%, but still said that this was under average and with my age, there was no guaranty I would get pregnant. I did once, miscarried, and it's now been 17 cycles despite ovulating each month and bdind at the right time every cycle, so he might have a point.

Could you consider iui? We are not elligible for NHS funding either because of my children, so unfair and descriminatory.

Hi FB...

Thanks for your reply...we have asked our GP before about the BP meds and she said that as far as she knew that wouldn't make any difference, and we were TTC before he went on the meds...I really do wish that I had asked now what the chances were, I am very doubtful to be honest and guess i've just got to face the facts that its not going to happen for us...we too BD at the right time every month and I know that I ovulate as well, sooooo frustrating.
The FS didn't seem to think that IUI would be any good due to the low count etc...and I agree I think it is unfair, even if the NHS gave us 1 free treatment and maybe another 1 at a reduced cost.
Anyway thank you again for your reply.

u could get some wellman conception tablets thats what my oh takes.. just and idea hun xx

Hi Mozz,
Sorry to hear about the problems you are having.
I cannot believe the NHS will not help you because you have a child! The problem has nothing to do with you - surely men have rights to be treated for their fertility problems too!
The NHS sucks - you guys should write a letter to your member of parliament.
I think it's not impossible for you to get pregnant love, but it will be difficult - I'm saying that based on what our doctor told us; we have a similar count and morphology to you guys.
I wish you all the best :flower:

We had male factor infertility as well. Decreased motility. Best of luck to you!

Hi Hun....
Thank you for your reply....I think its bad too, at the end of the day like you say men have rights too, even if the NHS offered us 1 or 2 free IVF treatments and then more at a reduced cost, but no....nothing at all.
I still hold out a bit of hope that maybe it might happen, I do believe that things happen for a reason and I guess if we are meant to have a child together then it will happen for us.
Thank you again for your reply.

Hi hun, sorry you are going through this! :hugs:

Just throwing it out there, not sure how common it is. But I saw a lady on here mention once how her DH was prescribed Clomid to help his spermies. Would be worth looking into and asking about. Good luck.

Hi Whit...

I think I have read something similar if not the same, FS didn't prescribe us anything just signed a form for us to be discharged and sent us on our way....I know I have a child and I feel very lucky...but is it fair for OH to have to go through life without a biological child of his own....will definatley have to look into it, I thought if they couldn't help us any other way a script for clomid would have been something...good old British NHS hey!!
Thank you for your reply will certainly look into it.
Also would like to say so sorry for your loss hun :hugs:

I agree 100%. I think its a huge mistake that men's part in ttc gets so often overlooked. Hope you get some answers soon. Good luck! :flower:
Thank you so much hun.
