hi,

may sound daft but what are the current "rules" of making formula?

with my eldest it was boil the kettle and make a "batch" (upto 6) in 1 go and then warm as required. with lil man it was make 1 as you needed it (i did it in "batches" as per my eldest as was easier). both are fine.

I'm the same as you.

I used to make a days batch up in the evening and heat them up as needed.

Now I've read that you should make one up as you need it. That's no blinkin good if you've got a screaming baby and need the boil the kettle and wait for it to cool is it?!

I'll be doing it the good old fashioned way I'm afraid!

I did the same with my son just four years ago.

They do say to make it as you go along, but what most of us seem to do is boil the kettle leave to cool poor water out into how ever many bottles you need for next 24 hrs, but add the powder as you need them and re-heat as you used to.

Whether you choose to keep the water in the fridge or on side seems to be up to you, I personally leave them at room temp, then not so bad if they need one asap depsarado like.

Alot of people use tommee tippe bottles closer to nature and these are ace cos there is also a little continer you can get which you basically fill up with the required powder and then in slots into the bottle under the teat, handy when out and about.

I believe it's still re-heat only once and is good for one hour after re-heating although a few mw hav said it's fine for up to two but again personal choice.

Hope that makes sense and helps a bit. hugs and best of luck xxxx

Yeah the rules are to make up the bottles as you go with boiled water which has been left to cool for no more than half an hour.
I do it this way to be honest, Seren is in a good routine so I just put the kettle on half an hour before her feed is due, and make it up after half an hour and put in a jug of cold water to cool.
When she was newborn it was sometimes difficult but I found it helped to have a thermos of cooled boiled water which I refreshed every few hours x

every night i sterilise 8 bottles boil the kettle leave it to cool..

fill up 7 of the bottles with 4oz of water (her current feed) and the other one with about 8oz.

i then add the powder as each feed is needed and she has them at room temp...

i keep the bigger bottle for her water during the day..

you dont need the to tomme tippe bottles for a powder dispenser... avent do one which is like a little pot but we have the tesco one which is exactly the same as the avent one.. cost £1.22 and stores three feeds,

we do try to warm her last feed at about midnight if she is patient enough! in hope tht it will settle her more!

ive been told to buy the ready made milk by my MW, but its so expensive and what are you supposed to do when they start having more then the amount thats in the ready made cartons.
I was also told to only use the powder formula upon needance, and sterilise the bottle before you use it.

I will be using the the powdered formula and be making it when i get up in the moring a day of bottles as im not gonna have the time to sterilise a bottle each time i need it boil the kettle wait for it to cool down and then make the bottle!
Im sure as long as the bottles is sterilised and closed until ready to use thtere wouldnt be a problem?
I suppose it entirely up to the other but thats what ill be doing hun.

i make them up in batches, on the occasions i've made them up fresh, my little lady screamed and screamed whilst i waited to cool! i've heard that some MWs recommend leaving water on the side and adding powder as and when, but the powder needs to be added to hot water cos its not sterile xx

Honestly, I take lukewarm water from the tap, add the scoops of formula (we use Plytex Drop-ins), shake it up, and give it to him. I never even knew I was supposed to boil and sterilize stuff and when I did find out I didn't see any point to changing something that worked.

the cartons contain 9oz. and a baby of any age ahouldnt have more than that at a feed.

thanks for anwers everyone. if i'm boiling the kettle for 1 it will fill all 6-8bottles but i wont add the formular until its needed,

I make up a batch twice a day. I use cartons in case of emergency when I havent got boiled water ready. I wouldnt dream of using tap water....

i make a batch for the day. they can be kept for 24 hours but never last that long lol. and throw close to an hour whatever she's left.

those that add powder to room/cold water then dont heat - do you not find its powdery - look inside, surely it can't dissolve if not hot?

I have added it to room temp water a couple of times when out and about. I thought it dissolved fine...... Ill look closer next time

sterilise everything and boil kettle (once only)

i use the tommeetippee bottles with the tubs that sit in the bottle for formula. We heat the whole thing up and when its ready mix the formula in and waaa-la! done!

xx

We make as we go along. We have a funky little routine set up. We boil the kettle, put half a bottle in fridge and the rest in a flask. Then when she wants it, we make up with the flask (half the water) mix the powder up. Then add cold water from fridge. It is then ready to go at correct temp. From rest of flask we replace water in fridge, and repeat :)

I have 7 bottles, I wash and sterilise them and fill them with boiled water and then leave them on the side at room temp. I then add the formula at feeding time and stick it in a bowl of hot water to warm it up although if i'm honest we never have the time to leave it to warm for long as Liv is usually ready and waiting, she has often drunk it at room temp and is happy with that - I use Cow and Gate and have never found that it doesn't dissolve properly.

i boil the kettle in the morning then pour it straight into a huge flask. then the water in the flask keeps me going until the night. that way the water is still mega hot and i can just pour the water from the flask into bottles when i need to make them up instead of having to wait for the kettle to boil every time i make a feed!
