What are your thoughts on this "old fashion" name?

My friend likes old-fashion ("old lady" names as she calls them) and is considering naming her daughter after a special relative. The name is -

Lois

Any feedback I can share with her?

It's not to my liking personally - but I think it has potential. It's similar to names that I see on here often that are well liked - like Alice, Elise, etc.

I know a lot of ppl like vintage names... and "L" names... and I bet there are guys out there who would like the Superman connection to this name.

Plus it's a Greek name which means "most desirable" - which is a nice meaning.

I'm just wondering why I never see the name Lois on here - I don't recall ever seeing it on anyone's lists?!

I know a few Lois' all in their 40s and 50s, so to me it feels a bit dated but not quite enough to be considered cool and vintage. Maybe in another 20 years or so?

I do really like Eloise though which I think has a more pretty and vintage feel but is quite similar.

Oh good call! I've never seen the show Family Guy so it didn't occur to me - I bet most ppl associate the name with that show though!

I like lois and think of lois lane...

My DD is Evelyn and if bump is pink dd2 will be Edith so very much an old lady name liker over here.

i like it, very pretty and unusual yet still recognisable. i know 2 Lois's. however, family guy has ruined it for me! x

Definitely reminds me of Family Guy. I agree that it's similar to Eloise and Esme and those sorts of names, so it could definitely work. I don't like any of those type of names though really, and don't like Lois either.

I know a few Lois's, 1 who is 21, 2 in their early 30's and a couple of others who are in their late 40's/early 50's. I'm not a big fan of the name but I can see the appeal- it is quite traditional but not overused.

My lo's best friend is called Lois and she is five, I think its a beautiful name, not to out there but still unique.

I have never thought of the name as old lol I know 2 Lois that are 12 and 16. I like it z

Only Lois I've ever known was my Grandmother.
To be honest it's definitely not my style either. Too old lady for me.
Eloise isn't too bad, and that's oldish right?

It's my name and I'm 26. When I was younger it was really unusual, I hated it until I was about 14 but now I love it.

I am complimented on my name all the time actually. I think it is becoming more common here and I don't know anyone who considers it old fashioned, just more unusual I guess. It is way more common in America than it is in the UK!

I know a Louis that gets called Lola. I think they liked Lola but wanted a name she can use when older too

I like it. I am biased because I favor more old fashioned names though, so we have an Eleanor (Nora) and are leaning toward Meredith for #2.
