Am just wondering, being pregnant at 17 what benefits or help I would be entitled to? Me&my partner are currently living with my mum. But its not on record, so what money my partner gets wouldn't affect any money I could be able to receive. I'm just really un-sure on what I'm liable for,&would love some help and information on this!
Thankss girls,
Tinka (:

I am also living with my mom.
I am going to get mother's allowance and something else.
I think there is like 2-3 things I can get from the government. (:

I don't have a clue what help ima receieve! I don't have a job,&i don't know how ima get all the essentials..like a pushchair etc!

Hi girls

As far as I'm aware you are entitled to ESA after the baby is born for upto 3 months. During the pregnancy you should be entitled to free vitamins and minerals, staturary maternity pay if you are working for the same employer for more than 26 weeks or if you don't work, maternity allowance which is payed upto 39 weeks, but that is normally only if you have been working recently. For your partners you may be able to claim ESA for both of you but this is only upto a few weeks. After the birth you can get a maternity grant to help with clothes and nappies.

Still if your partners aren't working full time it will be worth giving them a boot :winkwink: into work to help with the costs while you are stay-at-home-mothers until you wish to go back, or into work ( I recomend part-time to begin with if you do.) After all there isn't much reason why they shouldn't work until you have the baby.

Some people may not appreciate me giving you this information due to the present climate with people recieving benefits, BUT it is no good you not having a clue either. Providing you eventually become work ethic families (which I am counting on you to become! ) I don't see the issue and am happy to help. After all thats why we have benefits, for supporting families when times are hard.

Good luck and healthy pregnancies! :hugs: and I hope you find the information useful.

Me personally age 20, partner 24 works full-time and I care for 2 very sick elderly relatives. I was devastated when I had to give up my full time job for them ( believe me I was earning much more for less work) and start receiving the equivelant to JSA.

Good luck

I just want to ask, do you believe that both parties should be working? I'm rather 'old-school' in the sense i still believe the male is the bread winner and the women the 'baker' so to speak.

i was just curious as to your views :)

I'm no help as I live in Aus, but here I receive an allowance for studying. When the baby is born I receive a thing called baby bonus, which is what EVERYONE receives, $5000 to help with the costs of a baby, then afterwards parenting payment.

Leopard - I think while I'd love to be a SAHM, I will only be a full time one for a while, then going back to some casual/part time work and uni, then eventually working full time hopefully by primary school age.

If your mum is on benefits, you can claim JobSeekersAllowence untill 29weeks, this means signing on fortnightly, and looking for a job, they push you to find a job, which is stupid as no one will employ you as your pregnant, but you have to pretend to search for a job to claim the money, £53 a week.
Once your 29weeks pregnant, you can make a claim for IncomeSupport regardless of weather your mum works or not :) its the same amount of money but you dont have to sign on.
Once your 29weeks you can also claim a Sure Start Maternity Grant, of £500 to buy baby stuff and you can also claim Healthy Start Vouchers, for free milk, fruit and veg :)
So going to the job centre is your best option! Hope this helps and all the infomation is correct, thats how it worked with me :flower:

income support, maternity grant , child benefit and child tax credits

if you dont say your living with your partner though think you can get done for benefit fraud :S saw it on an advert once

the midwife shouldf provide you with a book and it should all be there what your entitled to, i think you get given so much money to help buy a few things for baby.x

That's benefit fraud if you claim as a single person...

As a previous poster said, you can claim job seekers until 29ish weeks and then go onto claim income support, also child tax credits and milk/fruit/veg vouchers. But whether your partner is 'on record' living with you or not, they'll find out and you'll have to pay back everything they've given you aswell as a massive fine and also prision. If neither of you are working you can still claim everything but as a family. But it's certainly not worth the risk in saying you're not living with your partner, they will find out x

If you're from the UK then income support since you're under 18, then when the baby's born child benefits and you get your milk tokens too.

Your best bet is to go onto the direct gov website and all the info is on there, if your still stuck there is a number on there and you can talk through all your circumstances with someone over the phone who will yell you exactly what your entitled to :) alternatively you can go to your local citizens advice bureau..
Good luck :)
