What do you do about dummy sterilising?

My first didn't really take to a dummy so I didn't need to think about this but my youngest does seem to like them. I have a Milton steriliser which I can take out with me and it is a god send but I was just wondering what everyone else does because I'm sure not everyone has one of these. Do you just sterilise them once or twice a day? What about if they fall on the floor? Just wondering what everyone else does. I was googling it earlier and a lot people said they sterilised them once a day and if it dropped on the floor, they would either wash it or put it in their mouth to clean it - which I know a lot of people do with older babies but obviously mine is still so young.

At your lo's age I didn't sterilize daily but I tried to a couple times a week. If a pacifier fell on the floor I put it straight in the sterilizer though. Nowadays we just give them a wash and sterilize every now and then.

I don't know why but the thought of putting them in my mouth makes me heave

I used to sterilise them once a day, either in milton solution or in the microwave (10 mins in hot water on high though I'm sure that was overboard :haha:) and sometimes in a pot on the stove! I'd just give it a rinse under warm water or get out a different one if it fell on the floor

I sterilised LO's dummies every day, someone bought me a dummy tree steriliser for the microwave that was really handy or else I put them in the steriliser with the bottles. I also used a dummy chain if we were out and about so that they wouldn't fall onto the floor

We just wash it with soap and hot water everyday and once a week we throw it in a cup of water and microwave it for a minute to sterilize it

As for puttin it in your mouth to clean it you shouldn't ever do this, it introduces bacteria into their mouths that can cause tooth,

I did think there are probably more germs in my mouth than on the floor! :)

I sterilise 4 times a day. I found and bought the milton portable dummy steriliser for £6.99 at mothercare. Takes 15 mins to sterilise. The sterilising tablets are so teeny.

When out, I attatch it to the pram handle. Soo handy!

My LO has 14 dummies so that I have always got a clean one to hand. If he drops it at home I just give it him back but if he drops it outside I always give him a clean one. I sterilise once a day.

we also have this. Its great. If it drops or he has had it for a long time just swap for the fresh one thats in the steriliser x

I do exactly the same. It is sooooo handy. One of my best buys!

I sterilise twice a week, put them in boiling water for 10 minutes every night when I do his bedtime bottle, and for when I'm out & about, I use these https://www.boots.com/en/Tommee-Tip...ottle-Teat-and-Soother-Wipes-30-Pack_1219909/

*I would sterilise more, but it's not often that he uses the dummy more than twice a week! He's not a fan.

I sterilise at the end of every day, he usually has one dummy for the day and I have 6 so usually I dont have to sterilise to often. If it falls on a cleanish floor il put it in my mouth but if its dirty or fell iutside id use another one and put that one in my sterilising pile

Sterilization is a bit more lax here but I'd sterilize the packet with boiling water and that's about it. If she dropped it, I'd wash it or use pacifier wipes. I sometimes threw them in the dishwasher which would sterilize it as well.

I sterilise every night, we go through about 3 dummies/pacifiers a day.

Boiling something for 10 minutes will sterilise it, you don't need to do an extra step if you do this every night.

I sterilise every night (I throw them in the steam steriliser with the bottles.) She only hae them for going to sleep so we dont ever really drop them on the floor. If it does fall, I give it a quick clean with hot soapy water or just give her a fresh one.

I've sterilised about 3 times throughout her entire life!! :haha: Not advocating that by the way, we're just not germaphobes! They got a wash every now and again if and when I remember....we normally buy 2 new dummies a month as my house seems to eat them.....

I haven't used them for a while since my son is almost 4 but I plan to again soon with this baby so I figured I'd reply. I wash all bottles, pacifiers and toys baby puts in mouth (teethers/rattles) once a week with a bleach/water solution and leave them to soak and then wash them with hot soapy water. I wash with hot soapy water once a day or if they fall on floor otherwise. If out and about, I just replace it with a different one.

I don't think it's necessary to sterilize that much.. just my opinion. Washing, however is a must on a regular sometimes multiple times a day and I never use my own mouth on my baby's stuff as it introduced bacteria from anything I have eaten/drank to my baby's mouth. It can cause tooth decay, gum issues, oral thrush and in rare circumstances can sometimes cause allergic reactions to foods that little babies shouldn't be introduced to that early.

I stick it in my mouth & then stick it in hers

I carry around 4 dummies in my change bag and if one falls on the floor then I'd give her a new one.

I probably wash and do a bulk sterilise once every 2 weeks? I've got about 16 dummies in total so just do them all together when I remember.

I'm not a germaphobe really lol

We didn't really use one until about 12 weeks (she just didn't like it and couldn't keep it in her mouth), but I always just put it in a cup of boiling water from the kettle and let it sit for a few minutes. I figure if it's good enough to sterilise formula, it's good enough for a dummy. I only did that maybe once or twice a week though, not daily. Or if I dropped it on the floor in the train or a public toilet or something.

Now I only even give them a rinse with hot water and soap if they start to smell! I'm lazy, so I'm hoping the bacteria is good for her.
