What do you do when your name gets 'stolen'?

i am sooo scared of hearing someone has called their baby the name we have picked out. Even on the forum. It took us soo long to come up with a girls name and a boys name but im being very particular as dont want any name that is associated with anyone else but also dont want the name to be too unusual.

We now have 1 boys name and 1 Girls name and we are keeping them quiet!!! Not telling anyone!!! Team yellow all the way so will see when my LO arrives!!!

I've seen a couple of my names for a boy mentioned in peoples sigs so no doubt I will be accused of stealing, even though i've had them in my head for years but they've suddenly got popular. As I haven't mentioned them on here I bet they'll all think I saw it in their sig and stole it :dohh: xx

It happened to me and i am so hurt and gutted as the friend knew i wanted it for ages. It is a horrible thing to do and now we can't think of another :(

And one of our names was 'stolen'. We didn't tell anyone our names so it's not really but mum got a new dog and named it our top girls name - its not even a common name, in fact its quite unusual!
I'm sure she would have changed the dogs name had we asked but the damage was kinda done. Lucky we had a boy ;)

Exactly the same thing happened to us!! and she woudn't change the dogs name!
as it turns out I'm having a boy so its not to matter now, but regardless... if we have a girl in the future we'll still use that name as we would have this time around.

I can't believe she wouldnt change her dogs name when you asked! That's a bit rich :nope:

I no what u mean, we had a name picked out for my LO if she was a boy and 3 weeks later her cousin was born and they called him that name... we cant baggsie it cos we had a girl but we will have to think of a whole new name now...

I know exactly what you mean - that is why we have only told a select few our name..not even mentioned it on here as i'd be gutted if someone else used it first!!!!!

If you like something, i would keep completely quiet about it

x

I dont get this at all. Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery! I would be flattered if someone called their baby Hebe. I 'stole' her middle name from someone on the forum, although I did ask permission first! I suppose if someone close used it you might be a bit miffed BUT TBH I'd still us it if I loved it that much. There are a few repeat names in our family and like I said I think it's quite a compliment. :D

Oh :( Grrr that would annoy me! lol
well mine didnt reallly get stolen but when mysister was pregnant, she asked for name suggestions and iabsolutely love the name Tilly-mae and i told her to name her that thinking that i wouldnt be pregnant for yearsss, and she called her Tilly-mae, and now im preg i wish i kept my mouth shut haha xx

i picked jamie-leigh for lilly when i found out i was pregnant and jamie ryan for a boy

jamie is after lilly's dad so would have been great to have a jamie-leigh....

but my oh's brother and his wife had there baby girl when i was 5 months pregnant n they called her jamie-leigh.....

i didnt really mind i just choose lilly-jade after besides now lilly wouldnt have suited jamie-leigh and my niece who is gorgeous really suits her name jamie-leigh.

im sure you'll find another name you really like.... besides you can choose a name you think is uncommon or you dont no any 1 with the same and when you have you will find some1 that you no with the same name it always happens unless you make your babies name up. good luck hun. xxx

lo im the same, lilly is grandmas middle name and mark bought me lillies every weekend so has a cute lil meaning to it hehe
and i must say your lilly is very gorgeous!

We have a short-list of names (on team yellow so both for boys and girls) but I keep forgetting what's on it! :dohh:

We don't know anyone who's having a baby - Hubby's cousin had a little girl in April but they're the only ones at the moment. They had found out they were having a girl and had names her Meisha even before she was born.

We on the other hand have not told anyone....even on here....any of our names, except potentially Elwood however as I'm not in labour and it's nearly 24 hours since the concert I think we're safe! lol. I still actually quite like it but I'm not sure lol.

We do however have about 6 girls names and about 3 boys names including middle names and everything so if anything were to happen, someone in the ward had the same name, or they just don't look like it, then we are flexible.

We have had to take a couple off the list though as people have mentioned names or particularly bad episodes of Jeremy Kyle have put me off them....fickle of me I know, but true!!

im scared of this happening, it took us ages to come up with our perfect name and one major reason we love it is coz neither of us no anyone with that name, no relatives/friends/friends kids/animals!! but i know 2 women pregnant with boys and theyre both due before me!! im so worried someone will use it!!!

I was worried about it because my DD is uncommon and one of my friends who was pregnant said she would love to call a daughter that and if I had a son then maybe she would use it!!
