Ive been trying to think of ways to make some money!!
I was thinking about buying baby clothes of ebay, gumtree etc (in bundles as thats where there usually cheapest) and then washing them and packing them up and then selling them on, was also thinking about doing this with toys!!

My MIL said she knows someone that does a carboot every week, they buy cheap toys from the car boots, scrub them and get them looking sparkling, wrap them up and then sell them one for more money. She said they always sell all there stuff as everyone sees them as more presentable, cleaner etc.

Would you think this would be worth it to bring in some extra money or do you think it would be a waste of time??

The baby bundles on ebay don't tend to be worth breaking, as there will always be some plain items that no one will be interested in, and when you sell them individually a lot of people will look at it and think that its not worth paying more than say £2 for an outfit given the £3 or so postage.

Toys might well work, it's about spotting a bargain no one else can. When I was 17 I used to buy bundles of vintage dresses from the states for about $60-$70 for 10 dresses plus $30 postage, break them, then sell them on again in the UK for an average of around £25 a dress. A few made over £200 because these things had no upper limit, it wasn't like that dress could be found anywhere else. My ex was a computer geek who used to buy old console's at car boots for £5-£10, clean them up, get them working if needed, then sell on ebay for £45 or so. Again, something that was of limited quantity due to the age and condition. Even my mum used to buy random hats and dresses on ebay, pair them up then sell them as wedding outfits for 3 or 4 times what she bought them for. This was more about people getting a perceived bargain, as a dress and hat rental in a shop might cost £250+, but a used set was costing £100 and they knew they could sell it on again afterwards.

If you can find bundles of branded babywear, then it might be worth a punt, but a lot of these bundles are just supermarket basics, and reselling those with postage on top will be very hard as you can get them new for a similar price.

Don't forget if you are buying specifically to resell then this is taxable income, and legally needs to be declared to inland revenue. If you have no other job you may well find you are under the income threshold, but eBay can be monitored for business selling activity, and personally I wouldn't run the risk not declaring if you decide to do this.

Hope that helps x
