Does it look like illness? Detergent?

DS went to a new nursery during church last Sunday. Tuesday afternoon he came down with a fever, but no other symptoms. He had a fever on and off, with no other symptoms besides being more tired (usually happens with fever) and a bit cranky, but I don't think he felt well. Yesterday he had no fever, but was cranky. We put it down to teething because you can see all four of his canines coming up out his gums.

Today, he showed up with this rash. It is on his back, a little on his belly, and some on his face. Not his limbs (yet).

It has been suggested, by my googling, that it is most likely Roseola, except he was not sick like a cold before, and it was only a low fever on and off and not a high fever, and the rash showed up a full day after the fever was gone. He also has a bit of redness in the cheeks, so I thought maybe slapped cheek, but they aren't REALLY red, and no flu like symptoms before...

Anyway, the third option is detergent, but why only on the trunk and then why the face with no clothes and not the legs or diaper area where clothes are closer? I have started using a different detergent, but I've used it before with no issues off and on (I alternate between it and a scent free one).

Fourth option, random viral rash, from a self limiting virus of some sort...

He doesn't appear to be uncomfortable in any way, no itching, not bothered by the rash, so I see no reason to take him in over a weekend unless something changes. One thing I've learned to accept about children...they get weird things and sometimes you just don't know!

Anyway, long to do...here are some pictures:

Only one or two on the front:

And the face (doesn't show well):

And here is a funny one, he was throwing a fit because I wouldn't let him have the phone while I was trying to take pictures with it. He flopped down on the floor and I thought, "great! Back shot..." and then the dog had to come take a sniff...

That last photo is hilarious 😛 my son just went through this exactly. He had about three days of lethargy, irritability and a fever that came and went (got as high as 39.1, but was mostly mild). On the third day he developed a rash much like your little guy's. The doctor we saw suggested Slapped Cheek, and I also considered Roseola as a possibility. He's fine in himself now, and apparently the rash will eventually fade. Hope that helps!

I have no advise on what it could be just that I don't think it's because of detergent, dd got a rash because our detergent was a bit strong for her and her body, legs and arms were bright red and covered in a rash her face was fine though as soon as i took her clothes off bathed her and put something on her that had been washed with non bio the rash cleared x

His cheeks are not hardly red at all today, but the rash is still there on his back. I am less thinking slapped cheek now.

I kind of wondered what a detergent reaction looked like, thanks for the experience on that!

If he had a fever the other day, its likely in relation to that, as rashes can show up after the fever has gone, and sometimes are the last symptom of an illness, even after the child feels better. Hard to say.

DS has felt fine, seemed like it might have itched once, but otherwise like he doesn't even notice. It was worse (more of it) the second day, I haven't stripped him down and checked today yet, but he seems fine.
