I want to make a point that this isn't to be a braggy/feeling bad post! Every child does things at different ages and there's no reason to boast about a child developing more quickly or feel negatively about anything at all! I just want a bit of information on things to do with my son/things to strive towards :)

DS1 developed quite slowly until 18 months as he had birth issues/was born early. So everythings new to me this time round!

DS2 has been nodding yes and shaking his head no since 6-7 months. He's 11 months now and he's been waving for a while, if you clap at him.. he claps. As of last month, if you say the word clap, he claps.

He's toddling around furniture and occasionally letting go, but not walking yet. He just seems to watch everything and take things in. I play 'Which hand is it in?' with him and he finds it hilarious!

Is there anything else I can do to help him with his motor skills/communication skills? :flower:

My nephew walked really early, and is now 15 months. He's running and has been since 8 months! But he doesn't wave/nod/shake his head/try to say any words - whereas DS2 does. I think DS2 is more interested in communicating/playing games whereas my nephew is more independant/a mover rather than a communicator! It's amazing how they're all so different :D

How about your LO?

Since 10 months my LO has..
- started walking, manages short distances between objects.
- says mam/dad/hello
- picks things up, holds it to his ear and says hello
- climbs everything
- can clap and shake his head
- dances constantly
- obsessed with pulling my hair/poking my eyes/slapping my face 😑 thinks it's hilarious
- climbs on and off the bed and couch.
- tries to wipe his high chair clean with a baby wipe
- tries to put his own socks and shoes on

He's just rocketed since he hit 10 months old. Still only has 2 tiny teeth though 😂

My LO loves his pretend phone and we pretend to talk to him or ring granny or daddy off my phone. I think it's really helped his speach.

It really is amazing. My son has always been more of a mover.

When my dd3 was 12 months...

She could walk (started at 9.5)
Had around 25-30 words
Knew about 10 animal noises
Waved
Pointed
Clapped
Had 12 teeth (has had all 16 teeth since 14 months)
Climbed up stairs (since 9months)
Loved to scribble on paper
Could build towers of 6/7 blocks and also could put together duplo.
Pretended to eat/drink with teaset
Danced to music since 9 months

Awesome! :) I have to let DS2 climb up the stairs to bed every night, little monster! Haha.

DS is 11 months
- Walks
- Says mama/dada/nana
- Claps and waves
- Climbs everything
- Turns his head away when he means no
- Loves peekabo
- Started putting things into containers instead of just chucking things out of them
- Dances
- Fake coughs - if you cough or even say the word cough he coughs

DS is ten months next week and he's changed so much in the last month. He climbs everything, walks holding your hand and holding the furniture, he has no fear about letting go but falls after a few seconds at most still. He waves and claps on command and will sometimes point if you ask him where is the dog/cat etc. He babbles constantly but only says one word properly, our dogs name whom he loves to pieces. He adores looking at books and playing peekaboo and with his piano and drum. We play lots of games like hiding small objects under one of his stacking cups for him. He always goes straight to the correct one even when you move them round. He likes pressing noses and waiting for you to make a beep sound when he does.
Just realised that we never shake our heads or nod so he hasn't done that yet, he's never seen it. He picked up clapping from another child lol. He is just starting to be interested in trying to out the shapes in his shape sorter but can't do it yet.

It is such a wonderful age, until you want to sit and drink a cup of tea/eat something without being climbed on and forced to share 😂

Clementine is 10, almost 11 months.

  • She is still not yet crawling, but she has started bum shuffling very slowly but surely to wherever she wants to go, and can turn herself a full 360 degrees on her bottom or tummy
  • She has been waving for a while now - I think since about 7 months - but is still not super consistent with it (on a "when I feel like it" basis haha)
  • She started pointing at 9 months
  • She dances
  • She has started to try and pull herself up on things, but isn't quite there yet - she will sort of get on her knees more than anything
  • She started clapping at 8 months and will clap when you say "Clap your hands".
  • She started saying some words at 8 months - first was cat. She now consistently says cat, mum, dad, nana, yay, yum, that (as in what's that and pointing), bath, duck, quack, moo, and other words that she just repeats when they are said to her lol. It is super cute when she says cat, as she will especially say it when she sees our pet cat <3
  • Tries to build with blocks (has managed a couple of times with two blocks :D)
  • Plays peekaboo with a blanket
  • Makes kisses with her mouth (trying to teach her to blow them! <3)
  • Plays a cute game with us where we pretend to push her over and she falls over (onto either mine or OH's legs) :haha:

This age is so cute and so much fun!! While I am a little bit like "C'mon, crawl!" I am amazed at her speech so early!

My 9.5 month old is nowhere near doing any of the things mentioned apart from waving (he did this once) He has also said dada

What he is doing is developing a real sense of humour. He loves anyone who pays him any attention, enjoys songs and silly noises and when you do something unexpected like put a toy on your head. He can roll a ball to me and scoop it up in his hands when I roll it back. He likes knocking down towers and turning book pages. He carefully investigates his toys, turning wheels or banging on drums. He loves shaking rattles. He enjoys games where he can anticipate your actions, like round and round the garden, and will start laughing and squirming before you've done it

I think he's behind in terms of gross motor skills (he sits up perfectly but nothing else) but didn't really have any other concerns...

As far as what to do with your baby, just interacting and playing will do the trick. If you're paying attention and seeking to build communication, you'll be able to figure out what your individual baby needs.

Leo is a few days short of a year and he is cruising although he doesn't much care to, so he doesn't do it much. He can stand independently, but doesn't do it much as he doesn't seem to care to. He's a speed crawler and I anticipate that this will delay his walking. His sister, on the other hand, didn't much care for crawling and only really used it in order to get to something to pull up on so she could cruise. She was taking independent steps by 10.5 months. Leo has waved, but stopped, after a while. He has used various signs. Again, these stopped after a while. The signing has recently returned and I've seen him sign "potty," "all-done," and "more food." The last one was a surprise as it was putting two signs together... One which I hadn't seen in months and another which I've never seen him sign. He has said "Mama" with meaning and may have said "Dada" with meaning. He has started to point, but doesn't do it much. He likes to show us things. He has stacked a ring on a ring stacker pose once and has periodically attempted to stack blocks since he could grab blocks. He has clapped, but only a few times. He doesn't nod or shake his head to indicate yes and no. He can climb off furniture really well. He's gotten better about not shoving things in his mouth unless hungry. He eats all kind of foods. We never did spoon feeding or baby food. He also can drink from an open cup, but also doesn't get how to not spill it... or doesn't care, haha... or actively enjoys playing with the water in his high chair tray. We don't give him a cup often, but I'm trying to give him exposure so he learns. Anyway, time to get back to work, but those are some of the things Leo does and does not do!

At 11 months mine were both walking, climbing everything, playing with duplo, and I think clapping etc was at about 6 months for Sophie and peek-a-boo at 7-8 months. Neither were close to talking.

Oh, reading the other posts reminds me that Leo:

- has tried climbing into boxes or bags.
- Has attempted to put his sister's shoes on and will put shoes or socks on top of his feet, indicating that he knows they go on his feet but doesn't know how to put them on. He was actually trying to put his foot inside his sister's boot though.
- Can understand simple sentences. For example, I asked him if he wanted a bite of something I had and he came speed-crawling over for it.

My daughter also has some necklaces laying around the house that Leo has put on by himself.

My dd is 9 months next week, so far she -

* claps, sometimes at random times, but always when we say 'yay!!'
* waves, again at random times, but always when we say hi, bye or nigh nigh
* gives us kisses on our face
*army & regular crawling
* pulling herself up to stand on furniture
* walking when holding onto someones hands
* says Mama/Mum, Dada (she will say these to the right people), baba

She is a lot further ahead at this age than my son, at her age he was just barely sitting when you left him in a seated position & did not do any of the things that my dd is now doing at this age. Babies are all so different!
