Hi ladies,

I did post this in TTC section but they advised me might be better posting here and getting your answers..

I have been TTC for 8 months now (6 cycles)
My doctor ran the day 21 tests and first showed no ovulation and second well awaiting results go back this week..
He said if they come back low he is referring me to the gyno!!

However i am unsure what the first appointment at the gyno will do??
Will he just do an all over body exam and then if results come back no ovulation again will he maybe give me clomid??

I have no idea what to expect.. I hoping results are ok and i dont have to go but at same time i have quite long cycles so i would like a outcome if something is wrong or if something needs to be helped maybe like the clomid..

xx

I've got my first appointment on Thursday so I will let you know what to expect when I get back. I think it might be different though as I ovulate so I assume I will skip the clomid and go straight to the tube investigations etc.

Thanks for replying.. I do think i ovulate but cycles are quite long so no idea what he will try.. might not need to go awaiting second results.. hopefully it might show i ovulated but no back to see doctor on wednesday x

It really depends on what you've had done already, how long you've been trying for and how your body is treating you.

I had already had all the blood tests and scans through my GP, but usually a gynae will first want to check all that. So if you haven't had an ultrasound yet, expect that first before anything else happens. Same for a day 21 blood test (and others) to confirm whether or not you are ovulating.

With me my first gynae appointment was just a talk really. He wanted a urine sample to check, but that was it. My scan and blood results showed that I have PCOS, but my gynae is hopeful that I might ovulate if I lose some weight. He did consider putting me on Metformin and Clomid, but as I haven't been trying for 12 months yet (11 in April) he couldn't prescribe it yet. That might depend on the practise you go to, but over here he's not allowed to give it out until 12 months in.

So after a chat he told me to try and lose some weight and come back in May when it's been 12 months. We'll go from there on, and if my cycles are still stupidly long and without ovulation we'll once again discuss putting me on Clomid.

Hi,

In my first appointment, they already knew I had PCOS and I had those scans done many years ago. I would assume you'd get scanned for PCOS if you havent already. probably have some blood tests to back the scan results up either way too.

Once we had discussed my PCOS (I am not overweight therefore I wasnt asked to lose weight at this time) we discussed my options which were Metformin or Clomid. I opted for Clomid as I had been on metformin for my PCOS symptoms a few years ago.

I would imagine if you're not overweight and dont have PCOS, they would run further tests perhaps. or they may just offer you Clomid.

good luck :)

I had an hsg before being prescribed clomid - at some clinics they insist on checking your tubes as there isn't any point in prescribing Clomid if they are blocked. Not all clinics do this however.

dh will probably be sent for semen analysis.

Good luck.

at my first appointment we discussed what tests were going to be done and i had swabs taken to check for stds and infections. they came back clear. then i went back for a hsg which showed open patent tubes, then i had a hormone blood test which came back normal, dp had a sa which came back borderline but not a problem. then i went back for my second appointment with the gyno and he prescribed me 6 months of clomid at 50mg and ordered a blood test to be done on day 21 to confirm if it was working and it was. now ive taken the 6 months worth with no luck so have 3rd appointment booked to discuss the next step which a assume will be a lap! hope this helps

:dust:

I have my first gyno appointment next month. Doctor has already done three 21 day blood tests showing no ovulation, and a scan confirmed that I have pcos.

Your comments have all been very useful! :)
