OH and I have been ttc since Feb 2008. In Oct 2008 I was diagnosed with polycystic ovaries (but not PCOS). I had an hsg in Nov 08 and all tubes were clear. In Jan 09 I found out I was pregnant, but sadly mc'd at 11wks. I mc'd again last June at 7 wks. I am on round 3 of Clomid, but don't think we've been successful as :bfn: and spotting started today. My FS said that after 6 rounds things get to be more complicated, but didn't elaborate on that statement. OH has good swimmers, just seems to be something going on in my body that's not easily identifiable. Thought I'd see if anyone has been in the same position and what they went on to after the Clomid? I'm just wondering whether IUI or IVF is more likely.

Thanks for any advice! :hugs:

Im sorry for your losses hun.. I don't have experience with 6 months of clomid.. I only did clomid for 3 months and im on break this cycle..

Good luck.. :dust:

Hi

Sorry for your losses. I went on to IUI after 6 months of Clomid didn't work for me. I was due to have 3 rounds before IVF but got BFP on round 2. I'm definitely not an expert but it sounds like the getting pregnant is not the issue so it may be that they go for IVF where they can do more in terms of checking the quality of sperm / screening. With IUI, they only wash the sperm.

Not sure if that is definitely the case and I'm only guessing. Best thing is to talk to your specialist.

Good Luck.

They tend not to prescribe more than 6 rounds due to the increase in the risk of uterine and ovarian cancer, plus clomid is subject to diminishing returns, so you get an increasing benefit for the first three months and then benefit then begins to tail off to the point where the benefit is not worth it.

I was due to start IVF after my clomid rounds, but I think IUI is another option. I would maybe ask your fs to outline a timetable of proposed treatment. I think IVF V iui depends or your situation and sperm quality etc.

I am not sure where you are located but if you are in the UK it migt be worth getting on the waiting list for IVF or IUI now rather than waiting for the 6 mths.

Best of luck. XXx

My fs was happy to at least put me in the queue while I was on clomid.

Thank you! Sperm quality is 'olympic gold' according to the FS, so I guess IUI isn't going to help as I think its possibly my egg quality. Is there a waiting list for IVF if you go private?

No it think most places will start the ball rolling if you are going private. Its worth getting your gp to do the neccesary blood tests so that you are ready to start the treatment asap.

Why not email the clinic you will be using and get info??? XX

This is an interesting thread. I am just on my 6th round of clomid then i have an appointment with the fs at the beginning of feb.

I really want to know what they are going to suggest to do next. I haven't had a lap and dye yet so maybe they will do that but i hope they put me on some sort of waiting list for either IUI of IVF.

Can someone please tell me exactly what IUI is and when it's used?

I would like to give a little hope. I tired for more than 2 years to fall pregnant the first time I went on Clomid the DR said that I had only produced one egg would I like to continue with the process. I said yes, God has a plan and what will be will be, from there we went ahead and did the IVF with a donor sperm. It worked first time!! very fortunate. 2 years after that I started trying again and nothing for over 8 years I took clomid in various doses even did the fertility injections and numerous IVF procedures and still nothing. Once again everything for a reason... my husband and I got divorced. Two years later I met the most amazin man we wanted to start trying asap due to my problem (polycstic ovarian syndrome & only 1 falopian tube and ovary) So I decied that becuase I knew the whole process from my past exp I would try and take Clomid 50mg on my own (no DR) and see what happens...... I took the tabs in April 2008 and on the 22 May 2008 it was confirmed I was preggies. I was in shock at first and did not believe it but it was real, I had a wonderful pregnancy and my baby boy was born on the 9 January 2009. Yes he will already be a year old tomorrow. Still cant believe it.

All I want to say is never give up hope NEVER! when the time is right (although soul destroying) it will happen If it can happen to me it can happen to anyone just have hope and faith and keep trying :)

Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is process whereby sperm are artificially placed in the uterus with the help of a catheter. This procedure helps to ensure that more sperm are available and able to access a woman’s egg, thereby aiding fertilisation and conception.

IUI is the updated name for what was once known as artificial insemination. The reason for the name change is that artificial insemination can now occur in four different locations: the vagina (intravaginal insemination), the cervix (intracervical insemination), the uterus and the fallopian tubes (intratubal insemination). While artificial insemination is seen as an umbrella term for these four methods, intrauterine insemination is the more exact name that refers to the specific method of placing sperm in the uterus. Of the four methods, IUI is the most commonly used while intratubal insemination is rarely used as it involves an invasive procedure.

So, just had an email from my FS... on a Sunday which is quite impressive! Guess that's a perk of going private! :) He said that IVF isn't necessarily the next step. There are a number of other options including metmorfin and Gonadotropin injections. I'm technically on round 5 of Clomid now so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we'll be successful in the next 2 cycles!

I'm in a similar situation as you. I have had 8 rounds of Clomid with no success. My next step is to see a FS, but have to go out of town for that. Due to circumstances we are delaying it for a few months. I was given the option to continue using Clomid, but have decided to continue trying naturally to really see what my body does on it's own. I'm curious what the next steps will be for all of us and hope we all get the results we have been waiting for soon.
