Oscar..
its one of the only boys names me and oh both like but both our parents have pullwd faces at it. (It doesn't put us off) just want to know whats wrong with it?

It's LO's middle name so obviously I love it. I wanted it as a first but OH refused. I really don't know what's wrong it at all! Both sets of our parents have said it's unusual but that they like it, so maybe a generation thing?

Maybe.
all of my friends like it and many considered it.
but my parents ans grand parents arent keen.
I like traditonal names and always though Oscar was.
Schindlers list is one of my fav films, thats where I got the name from actually.

If neither of you are put off and you like it go for it!

My OH likes Oscar because one of his fave authors is Oscar Wild but we know a couple with an Oscar.

I've not told my in laws or family our chosen boy name because of their opinions and I know that their choices are completely different to ours.

They'll love the grandchild regardless of name - that's what I'm thinking!

Nothings a definite anyway just running through names as still early days. Weve already said we wont tell anybody what we decide this time so we cant be put off.
we went through 100 boys names last night and Oscar and Alfred/Alfie are the only 2 he now liks lol

I like Alfred. But yea I think keep the name to yourself and just say you've not agreed or something and when the baby comes you'll give the baby a name suited to their little face etc.

That's what I've said because with DD I had both MIL and my MUM pull a face and even said ooh we don't like that!

Then this time my DD who's only 3 mentioned to MIL we like jasper and again I had the face! So I just said we've not agreed!

But now she's always asking and offering suggestions!!!

I love Jasper! I mentioned it to OH yesterday but hes having none of it.
Our family try to put us off witout realising theyre doing it. X

Oscar works with the names you already have. My dh doesn't like it either, but I don't think it goes with my ds name anyway. I like it though!
I really like Jasper, I'm fighting to keep that one on the list!

Did you ask them why they made faces? I think the name may be more common in the UK - not so much in the US. I've never known anyone actually named Oscar, personally... so my only two associations with the name are:

Oscar The Grouch from Sesame Street & Oscar Mayer Weiners (neither of which are great associations)

I think Oscar the Grouch.

But I love Oscar the Grouch and I think Oscar is a cute name. LOL

I don't really enjoy the name Oscar as I don't like the way it feels when I say it. Plus, he would get Ozzy as a nickname, which I despise. But it's having a resurgence, so it's obviously well liked. As kids get older you realise they make the name and not the other way around, so if you like it, then use it. :)

I looove Oscar. So much so that I named my hedgehog Oskar and my LO was in love with him so naming a kid Oscar is off the table unfortunately. :( It would totally be at the top of my list otherwise.

Oscar the Grouch is the BEST. Love love love him.

Nothing's wrong with the name. It's really rude they pulled faces - don't let them have an opinion , just don't discuss it with them

nothing wrong with it. people tend to do that at any name they wouldnt choose which can be a massive list of names! Its a perfectly fine name. Im not a fan personally but I see a lot of people using it now. I think its making a come back

Nothing wrong with Oscar. In the UK it's a pretty popular boys names. I like it :)

Maybe it's a generational thing. I think it's cute. Maybe you're just ahead of the trend. You never know what associations people make.

This is the name we've chosen, so I certainly don't think there's anything wrong with it :)

I think people have too much of an opinion when it comes to what other people choose to call their children. Neither mine or DH's parents have commented on our name choice but if they did, I'd tell them where to go. Quite honestly, it's nobody else's business. Go with something yourself and your partner like. After all, you're the ones that are going to be saying it every day!

I went to school with a boy named Oscar and I'm in the states where it's not all that common. I like it.

My lbs oscar. Ive had people asked why we gave him a dogs name o_O

Somebodies always got a crappy opinion. Ignore them

Love Oscar, it's our chosen boys name too if we have one and our inspiration came from Oskar Schindler too! I think older generations think of Oscar Wilde, and he was famously gay. Maybe some older generations associate with that badly? No idea but love the name, go for it!
