What is the most painful part of labour?

I found crowning the most painful with my first( I had no painkillers in that labour), with my second it was the contractions and I had meptid which I think is pethidine and it worked great absolutely took the pain out but I could feel everything if that makes sense but it's worth it and it's not that bad cos we do it again.
I found that thinking realistically ie yes if course it will hurt cos that huge thing had to get thru that small hole somehow but it will and it'll will end really helped me.
Also my midwife said think of it as positive pain. Each contraction brings you closer to seeing your baby.

I would do it again tomorrow and yes it hurts but you don't care at the time you just go with it

Every labours different but for me it was the pushing that hurt the most but i had to have an episiotomy, forceps and ventouse lol so it was deffinately worse than the contractions.
Dont be terrified hun go in open minded honestly i was the biggest wimp to pain going and i ended up getting to 7cm with nothing, however when they finally realised i was in labour and not just having braxton hicks gas and air became my best friend :winkwink: if used properly its very affective.

The most painful part for me was when established labour first started. I think it was the fear more than anything but 2 hrs after established labour started I was in hospital 7cm dilated so it happened quick too. I was pushing about an hour later. Once in hospital I felt more in control.

I didn't feel the crowning at all, I didn't know his head had been delivered! I'd had an episiotomy though and they'd numbed the area

They gave me pethidine when I arrived but tbh it hindered more than helped because I was so drowsy. I had no other pain relief.

I'm already desperate to do it again so it couldn't have been that bad! You'll be fine :hugs:

The pressure in my butt. Epi didn't help AT ALL. Wore off within minutes.

for me it was the contractions... i used gas & air and i lot of pethadine. The pethadine had worn off by the pushing stage but i found the "working with your contactions" and pushing helped to take your mind off the pain. Plus you know its nearing the end- well for most people. I pushed for 2 hours but he was stuck so had emergency c section with a full spinal block. I must say after 14 hours of intense contractions that block was amazing! The section itself is a blur and i didn't feel anything.

Whatever happens though you get through it and have your beautiful baby and everything is totally worth it. You forget the pain and i want another in the future. So please don't be too scared. xx

I didnt go through full labour as had emcs. However, I did have an epidural. Unfortunately it wasn't completely successful and I still had a lot of pain (primarily on my left side). As a result of this they couldnt top it up with what ever they needed to to do EMCS, so they took it out and I then had a spinal block

For me, this time it was probably delivering the placenta lol. I found pushing that harder than pushing her out because when I was delivering her there was such an unbelievable need, a drive to push I couldn't help myself. It felt like there wasn't as much force with the placenta  Also, the last couple of contractions, which got her head all the way down were agonising and seemed to last for aaaaaages. It was at that point I asked for gas and air. Also, I have a tear that they said didn't need stictching because it's so tiny. Doesn't bloody feel like that :growlmad: I feel like I'm splitting in two :cry: xx

The contractions for me...I had an epidural and it was brilliant. It blocks the pain but you can still feel your tummy tightening slightly so I knew when to push.

First time around, again it was the contractions, (I had Pethidine but it didnt work)

I'm with the other ladies on this one; contractions during the last stage is the worst! But, if it's any comfort, it's the peak that was the most painful, and you try to relax yourself when you feel yourself climbing to the peak of your contraction. I was annoying my nurse as for natural pain relief, I would wiggle my hips, and it would cause the monitor to blip in and out! :haha:

I went natural for the majority of it, and then got an epidural at eight cm. It worked great, and I could still feel the urge to push, even past the numbing.

Being my first, I was scared too... But honestly you get into labor, and you just focus and get through it. The pain is a vague memory, unlike looking down and seeing LO for the first time, looking all greased up like a pig from being born and looking up at me. *That* will stick with me for a lifetime :flower:

FOr me,the worst bit that sticks in my mind was being examined,ow that hurt so much!yes contractions hurt but I kind of just dealt with it,had gas and air which was amazing!didn't have an epidural as don't like needles and wanted to walk around a lot, didn't like the idea of being stuck on a bed, although I had to have a spinal block afterwards in theatre for third degree tears x
EVery labour is different but I would do it again...have blocked out the pains!x

The crowning for me was the worst part, but i wasnt in the best position.

I didnt have an epi so cant comment. I just had gas and air.

Good luck, you will be fine xx

Pushing was the most painful for me. No rest in between pushes cos the pain from the pressure was so intense, so I was exhausted pushing. Also the pressure pain masked the contractions so I couldn't tell when to push.
Didn't have an epi, had a para cervical block instead but wish I had got an epi, oh well. Also gas and air from 2 cms til the pushing stage, couldn't let go of it!

You'll be fine :flow:

I had labour/birth at home, the m/w arrived and I was already 9cm, I walked through most of the early contractions and stood and swayed through the harder ones - transition was intense rather than painful but crowning stung!

I had no pain releif at all. I'm not a brave person at all, I cry if I stub my toe, but labour is different, you can do it, just go with the pain, don't fight it. Find a place inside yourself and go there, you will get through it and come out feeling amazing.

Pushing was the most painful part for me, but even so, it was manageable. With the contractions, I just went into myself and breathed through them and even though they were coming every minute or so for a few hours, I coped without any pain relief. Spend the few weeks before your due date practising your breathing whenever you get BHs and it'll be second nature by the time labour starts.

Honestly though, once your baby is here, you'll look back on your labour and wonder what all the fuss was about. It was all I thought about when I was pregnant, but once it was over, it was over. It's really the baby that all this is about and it doesn't really 'start' until they're born - pregnancy is just the prologue.

Contractions were the most painful for me. Perhaps because I was contracting for about 7 hours and only pushing for 45 mins (which is considered a pretty quick labour). You'll do great.

I didn't have any pain relief but it wasn't out of choice!! They checked me at 2am and said i was only 2cm and needed to be 3cm to get pain relief (i wanted pethadine). Then they said they couldn't check me for another 4 hours because they risked infection since my waters had broke. When they checked me 4 hours later i was 8cm which they said was too far along for pain relief aside from g&a which didn't touch the pain really, just made me feel a bit drunk.

Honestly, just look at all of us in baby club. We all did it, your mum did it, your friends with babies did it, and there is nothing different about you that will make you unable to. You'll do great.

When her head was coming out, But it was all bearable for me..

The worst pain was actually my milk coming in about 3/4 days after lol My boobs were in agony!

Contractions. And they were only really bad for about 15 minutes, then I was pushing. LO was fast coming though, 5 hour total labour, and no pain relief.

I had 1 hour and 30 mins of pushing and that for me was the worst part. I breathed through all the contractions up til then like a pro but as soon as he started coming down the birth canal I was a different woman! That was the worst bit for me.xxx

Contractions hurt the most for me, I had diamorphine and I wouldn't have it again- I don't feel like it really helped much. I was in shock during my labour though, so I would suggest having some kind of relaxation techniques to help you.

for me it was being checked afterwards that hurt so bad but the actual labour was lovely :cloud9: cant wait to do it again x
