Do you check diaper/change diaper, feed, burp, and then just finish on baby's cue or try to get them to drink "x" amount that they are supposed to?

Sorry if this is such a weird question, I'm a total newbie at this

Or do you just feed without changing the diaper?

I see your LO is new! Congrats! I BF mine for the first 3 months, but I always fed on demand. I would change her after feeding, since she had a bowel movement after every feed! If not, I'd end up changing her twice during a feed. If she were formula fed, I'd probably change it before or in the middle of a feed since newborns sleep so much, assuming your LO falls asleep during feeding. Also, I'd burp after every ounce or so. Now that my LO FF, I just change her throughout the day when she needs it and before laying her down at night since she sleeps through the night. I also burp her about halfway through her feed and afterwards. She is 14 weeks old and takes 5 oz per feed. Hope this helps.

I've always changed Evie after her bottle, dunno why, it's just a habit I've got into lol! I usually leave it 20 minutes tho because she's quite a sicky baby so I have her sat up for that time, then change her nappy :)
As for the amount she drinks, I dont try and get her to have "x" amount, if she doesnt want anymore then she wont take anymore, she'll turn her head or clamp her lips shut, there's no choice lol! I'll put a certain amount in a bottle (at the moment she has 8oz bottles) and she'll drink what she wants from that - sometimes its all of it, sometimes she'll have just 6 or 7oz.

I read a book that recommends the "easy" routine:
E: Eat
A: Activity (change/bath/play etc)
S: Sleep
Y: You time
I dont have my baby yet, so cant say whether or not it works, but i thought it was a good way to remember which order to do things in?

I dont have a rountine at all, sometime ill change her diaper first, inbetween feedings, or after the feeding. So im pretty much all over the place  after a burp from taking half the bottle, I see if she still wants more most the time she does, but sometimes she wants to wait a little while 5-10mins

Alot of the time I will change her nappy after, so that if she falls asleep she has a clean nappy but sometimes she'll of just had a bath so won't need changing etc or she'll be happy to play for a while after so will then change it after that. Just varies :D

As long as you maintain a simple structure based around this routine it will work. Megan is 10 weeks old and is sleeping for 12 hours at night and has regular naps through the day through us following the routine of the Baby Whisperer.
As far as feeding routine I follow this system too. I feed her what she wants then chnage her bum then let her nap and then have a well deserved cup of tea!

I got into a pattern last night of (1) check/change diaper, (2) eat (3) sleep (he seems to fall asleep after his 2-3oz, then sleep for me (or TV if day, LOL). Thanks for the help :flower:

This sounds like a good book, I was thinking of getting it. Sounds like you recommend it??

xx

I change Max's nappy first thing in the morning (obviously) and then just every so often throughout the day when I feel it's time to get it changed. Or if I know he's pood then I change it about 5 minutes after to give him time to finish his business. I don't plan to change it around feeding time, but quite often recently if he's feeding he'll poo half way through, so once he's finished feeding I change him.

As regards feeding I make him a 150ml bottle and see how much he'll take. If he takes the whole bottle he's generally full, but if he hankers after more I give it to him (but he's only done this twice). Most times he won't finish a full bottle.

I start feeding him then about half way through, I stop and wind him then give him another go at the rest of the bottle and then wind when he's finished. Max always let me knows when he's had enough as he "shuts up shop". He keeps his lips tight so you can't get the bottle in - his signal to show me doesn't want anymore.
