What level is the level? Am I doing it wrong!? Dumb question!

We had our first formula feed this morning. I tried 8 oz. So measured 8oz into the bottle and added 8 scoops. The level went from 8 to 9 oz. Baby had a dring and level dropped to just below 6. So has she had just over 2oz or 3? Did I do it wrong??

Thanks

This annoyed me to start with too! I count that as two ounces. My husband keeps saying the opposite so who knows.

I THINK the correct way is to count from the original water level (before the powder) but maybe someone else can confirm this?

You really can boggle your mind if you think too much! Haha!

Thanks Joy - it's just that 2 sounds like nearly nothing and 3 sounds like not far off a feed for a weaning baby?? lol

I'd count it as 2! It's so annoying that it goes up with the weight of the powder but I just ignore what it goes up to as technically it would still be classes as 8oz. I find some of the "extra" is bubbles. What I wonder is if I ever wanted to give my baby 9oz I don't think it would fit in the 9oz bottle due to the expansion hmmm! Xxx

I've always counted it as how much they've drunk personally. Though I refer to the bottles in oz. so a 4oz bottle to me contains about 100ml, and if the bottle is finished I say baby's drunk 100ml, because they have drunk 100ml of made up milk.

Sorry to confuse everything! Though this may be because dd didn't put weight on "correctly" so when health visitors were grilling me I clawed back every ml drunk that I could.

I would count an 8 scoop bottle as an 8oz bottle (but then note down how far down the markings we'd actually drunk).
