Hi ladies! My baby is 20 weeks and going through the whole sleep regression thing, he has outgrown his cocoonababy and is now in his big cot in our room, here is the problem..... Yesterday he learnt to roll from back to front (but then gets stuck and screams!) My main worry is he is putting his arms and legs through the slats of the cot! I place him at the foot of the cot as recommended but he wriggles around and at nap time today he put his leg right through and was then trying to turn over and got all twisted up!
1. Is this safe because it looks like he could hurt himself!
2. How do I stop it .... I thought cot bumpers were banned! I do have a sleep pod which I could use at night (although it's been way too hot where I live!) but not really practical to strip him off every nap time and put him in the pod!

Any ideas/advice?
Thanks in advance x

Cot bumpers arent banne but dangerous, i weaved a blanket in and out when my baby was doing the same, baby stopped doing it in about a week though.

Have you considered air wrap mesh bumpers?

This, I had to get air wrap mesh bumpers otherwise my little one would have arms and legs everywhere, I also put him feet to foot but he wriggles everyehere

This is him sleeping the other night

We've got these too. Breathable, velco fastenings (no strings in case of strangulation) and collapsible so if baby stands on them they can't use them as a leg up out of the cot.

Thanks ladies, I have never seen these! Now I will get on the case and see if they sell them anywhere in Switzerland (or get them shipped ASAP!):flower::thumbup:

Iv had to strap him back into the cocoonababy for tonight!

In the meantime, sleeping in a sleeping bag could help as he won't be able to get his legs through the cot as easily (although it won't help with his arms).

We use the Safe T sleep wrap to keep her from rolling to tummy because want to keep her swaddled but it basically keeps baby in one spot. I like it but I plan to unswaddle her soon because I suspect she's a tummy sleeper!

Id just leave baby be. I never swaddled either boy and didn't use any kind of bumpers. If they rolled I just left them unless they got upset. Neither have hurt themselves.

After a few days of panic (myself) & baby crying from time to time because a leg, arm or both sticking out from between bars, she got over it. I would just readjust her & put her back on her back, feet to foot but she'd immediately roll over again. Our health visitor told us that as long as she's the one who moves herself then it's ok.

It's really quite nice to see how fast they learn, I'm very impressed. She'll still have a whinge every now & then as she is an extreme wriggler and seems to be most comfortable with face planted flat down! But that's it.

I did get the mesh air bumper but haven't used it.

My sons just started doing this and I'm just leaving him to it unless he starts getting upset. He sleeps in a sleeping bag so can't get his legs through. He sticks his arms through and just pulls them back just as easily so I'm not worried.

Another advocate for the mesh velcro air wrap bumpers over here. My baby does laps of his cot in his sleep. They are quite expensive but worth it if you have a wriggler.

I just wanted to give a warning about swaddling (I'm only assuming that's what the cocoonababy is) when a baby can roll over. I recently read about a baby who was swaddled and rolled over and suffocated because he couldn't use his arms to prop himself up or roll over. Please be careful.
