Hello.
I have never posted in this section but a long time fan of BnB and I know you ladies will have an answer for me. I am 30 and dh is 26 and we have been TTC for a bit over a year.Dh had 4th stage cancer when he was 5 yrs old. he had major doses of chemo and radiation. we just recently had a SA done and it came back not so good in one aspect his count was only 1 million/mil with a total of 2 mil/flu for only 2 million swimmer. we had done the deed two days before his SA and the lady said that this was perfect because this was what our bding timing was.

Sperm analysis results
arrival time 1hr 30 min after ejaculation
( took an hour to get there and then they made me wait in the waiting room!)

PH level- 9
Count- 1 Million/mil
Mobile-65%
Morphology-16% normal
abnormal head-80%
abnormal Tail- 4%

He was supposed to have a ultra sound but the stupid nurse told him that he did not need to have it!So now he will not do it!I hate her!
any way I do not have insurance that will pay for fertility issues. I have started to think about IUI and IVF. I was excited about IUI but then realized that Dh probably will not have enough swimmer after the wash for a sucsesful attempt:nope:
IVF is a bit expensive but I have a few options I have found on the net like a clinical trial or egg sharing program.my question is with such a low count should we even waist our money on IUI or should we go straight for IVF. there does not seem to be anything wrong with me I ovulate every cycle ( I have just got them under control due to vitex thank God!)any info would be great thank's ladies!

Hi MrsPing,

These results are similar to my DH's. We weren't offered IUI as the counts are so low - we had to go straight to IVF with ICSI.

Wish you all the best x

I know from reading our clinic's info that they would only consider ICSI with that kind of count.

But your hubby should have had a second SA done for comparison as they can differ greatly - especially if they kept you waiting so long with the sample. Sperm can only live outside of the body for a limited time - a lot of research says up to an hour so it could explain why his results were so low. I know you weren't expecting great results because of his history but I would definitely try and get another SA done - is there any way hubby can go and do the sample there?

Good luck

ya he needs to go back and get another one but has to wait 6 - 8 wks before he does.they want him to do it in the clinic but he is very uncomfortable with that so we decided we will rent a motel room within 20 mins of the clinic. this should help alot. we didn't really speak with anyone about our options a I am sure they did not really care because insurance does not cover anything. was just wondering what the #'s would be to be excepted for ivf.thanks ladies!

Hi Mrs. Ping! Our FS said we had to have the sample in within 30 mins. My DH's was so bad the first time (because the blood clinic let it sit for 3 hrs) that they had us come into the Fertility Clinic to do it. It took me ALOT of convincing to get him to agree to doing it there. It took awhile in the room but he eventually got it done. It's all about making a baby. Gotta take yourself out of the equation if possible. His SA was better than the first time so we were scheduled for IUI. We jsut had it doen 6 days ago. His count was 2.6 million pre wash and 800,000 post wash! They did it. I guess because I had already been on Clomid that month (I ovulate on my own) and I had already paid and we had been there for 90 mins. They said they haven't seen it happen but I have nothing but positive thoughts!!! Miracles happen. I will keep you posted. It only takes ONE!!! I'm also putting DH on Maca to increase everything. I have heard nothing but great things about it. Lotsa babydust to you!!

I am alo going to put Dh on maca. I was supposed to start him last cycle but waiting for my health food store to get it in.he is already on vit c and vit e!plus he eats pumpkin seed. I just started him on that! I can probably get him to do it in the clinic but will need to do some big time dealing!

Mama sound really good I have to wait till august to go back to the o.b and try to convince her to give me clomid.I will have to discuss things with her before I get any referals.
just seems like I have been trying forever and nothing seems like it's gonna work!
I try to stay upbeat and am thinking about trying the" not trying " thing and just bd everyother day no matter what!

I hear you, its gets exhauasting and can take over your life. I try to do something for myself every day that makes me happy that takes my mind off of it. After 2.5 years of trying I feel that I contstantly have "making a baby" on the brain. It gets to be toooo much.

What's the deal with the pumpkin seeds? I don't know this lil trick!

they are very high in zinc to boost sperm production. DH hates taking pills but loves to eat.
1/4 cup a day should boost his sperm production!

Mrs. Ping, my DH also has a low sc of 4.7MM post wash. Our RE recommended going straight to IVF, but, we have decided to try two rounds of IUI. Just had the first on 7/18. The other option, which we have just started discussing, is donor sperm. We have a 6 yr old adopted daughter so biology isn't as important to us, although, it might feel a little strange with one of us being a bio parent and the other not. I ordered fertiliaid and am going to get DH on it right away. He feels like a guinea pig...lol

we have discussed adopting if that is what it come too.I have not discussed donor sperm with him yet.I also convinced him to go get his ultra sound done. he is on so many vit's right now I just hope his next SA comes back better.

Mrs. Ping, we adopted our daughter from Russia as an infant in 2005. She is AWESOME! But, adoption is super-expensive too. I bet we spent $50,000 as we got stuck in a Russian slowdown. We got $12,500 of that back through a tax credit. My neighbor said she spent $35k on ivf for her first child and $45k for her second (or vice versa)...shocking how expensive it is for ivf in the u.s. I pray that IUI works for us b/c I just don't think we can afford anything else.

I see you there ivf is very expensive. thats why i hope his vit's work. he already said that the vit's give him more energy and he has also noticed that when he ejaculate's it's a lot more now. Come on vitamins!

We just got our vitamins in yesterday and dh has started taking them. Reluctantly. He is so darn stubborn. Come on! Just take the blasted pill I am handing you!

Mine was at first but now he like to take them . I don't even have to tell him.He says he has way more energy and just a good feeling all the time!
