Hey ladies, so I just got my :bfp: yesterday and went to my OB today to have my beta done since I miscarried in November. I'm also going back again 48 hours later (on Friday) to repeat.

Well the nurse just called me back and told me my beta is only 16 :( Is this really low for 12dpo? She did say my progesterone looks good though.

I'm so worried now. She called in a prescription for me that I'm supposed to take for the next two weeks (apparently supposed to help keep me from miscarrying?)

What were your HCG levels around 12dpo?

I didn't get my betas tested that early but when I first went in, I was around 4 weeks or so and it started at 36. The starting number isn't as important as the following numbers.

That's true, about the number doubling. I think today, based on my O date, I'm only 3 weeks 5 days. So maybe 16 isn't too bad, considering yours at 4 weeks?

Normal range for 3-4 weeks pregnant is 9-130. You are fine.

This time at 3 weeks 6 days my beta was 307. Don't worry, as long as the numbers double you're fine!

Ahh that's so much higher than mine! But then again as Proserpina said it could be as low as 9. This sucks, why can't I just have a normal pregnancy

Your HCG so far is normal. Low end of normal is still normal.

The range I just gave you came from my own HCG lab report @ 15 dpo. My HCG at that time was 138, which means it only would have been 34-76 @ 12dpo. Not as low as yours, but still much lower than the other women who have reported in.

If you're really worried, request a test in a few days to confirm that your levels are increasing at a normal rate.

I guess I'm mostly just worried because with my mc I went in for a thousand blood draws and got call after call of low betas, all high enough and normal for where it should have been, but obviously wasn't successful. I'm just worried I'm going to go through that again. I was expecting a "You're in the clear" type call today but instead it was "Well it is very low..." so I'm just worried.

I am going back in to retest on Friday. Hopefully it will have doubled!

It's not the number that matters so much as if it doubles. We (a group of fellow surros) Just had a baby born that wasn't supposed to be. Her first beta was 2! Anything below 5 is generally considered negative. But that baby is very much here :)

I work in the medical field, and the only way to tell is with repeat HCG's. Remember your HCG has to start somewhere, so depending on when you implanted, 16 might be okay. Is really does depend on the doubling time.

Also, progestrone will not prevent miscarriage if it is not a viable pregnancy. It will only delay the loss.

Wish you the best of luck and hope this is your sticky bean. Will be stalking xx

Exactly! Don't panick yet, it just depends on when you implanted :) and if on Friday they doubled ( which I'm sure thy will) then the initial number doesn't matter. Gl xx I also had a mc (Mmc) so trust me I feel you!

So I shouldn't be taking progesterone? I def would not want to be delaying a mc that's already happening.. why would she have prescribed it to me??

No, take it, there is no harm in taking it. However, if it isnt a pregnancy that is viable, it wont stop you miscarrying. Nothing in the world can do that or there would be no miscarriages.

Progestrone will help sustain a good pregnancy.

Oh okay, I see. That makes sense. Thank you! :flower:

Hi.

Just to share, I had my HCG done on (what I think was) 12DPO and the reading was 26.9. It was 704 on 20DPO and now today at 23DPO it's 2633 (bear in mind I don't know for sure exactly what day ovulation was, I have a good estimate though).
So mine was a "slow start" but is now doubling every 35 hours, going by the HCG calculators.
So don't worry just yet, get your second beta done and then you will know for sure.
Good luck!!

Mine was 39 at 13 dpo with my son. It really just matters if they're doubling hon.
