My son just turned 8 weeks yesterday and I got him weighed today and he's weighing in at 13lbs 6oz. Last week he was 12lbs 11ozs and when he was born he was just 7lb 4 ozs so in just 8 weeks he's put on over 6lbs. When I got him weighed today the health visitor basically said he's putting on too much weight. He's having 5oz bottles about 10 in 24 hours. He usually goes only 2 hours between each feed. Sometimes he doesn't finish the whole 5 oz but most of the time he does. Anyway, HV said try him on 6oz bottles with level 2 teats (the ones for 3month+) I tried him with them teats about a week ago and all he did was kept choking on them, panicking and crying. I told her he kept choking and she said that's good.

P.S Males from my side and his dad's side are both big build!

Baby rice is not good idea in bottles. Did u consider hungry baby formula instead of the normal one? It's more filling & would make him go for more than 2 hrs between feeds. worth a try. U can also try giving him water instead of milk after 2 hrs, & give him his next feed after another hr. Worth a try.

dont put baby rice in a bottle!!!! its a choking hazard because they suck liquid, quicker than they would eat rice off of a spoon.
hes far too young to be on rice anyway.
its a good thing hes putting on weight. he could just be going threw a growth spurt or something
it will level out.
i would increase the amount in a bottle and try and get him to take around 5/6 bigger bottles a day. perfectly normal at his age to be on that.
i dont agree with using the level 2 teats if hes choking either. thats not a good thing. i only moved lo onto level two teats when she was falling asleep during her bottle cause she was having to try to hard to get it. by the sounds of it, hes not ready

There's doctors and midwives who suggest babies as young as 2 weeks to go on baby rice. So really, 2 months too young? And if it wasn't in a bottle but was on a spoon instead there's the 100% probability he would choke. He chokes on anything from a spoon such as gripe water and calpol. He's not once choked on the baby rice in a bottle so I'm quite sure he's managing it alright. I've read what's normal for babies his age to be on and he'd still be hungry on just that. That's why I've commented on here. He's on hungry baby milk and I've tried him with water but he kept pushing the bottle out. I was told by a midwife once to try sugar in the bottle but then read that you're not suppose to?

your not supposed to give a baby anything apart from milk until they are at least 17weeks old. your lo is nowhere near that.
in the bottle manufacturer instructions it will also say only to give milk in a bottle and nothing else. i didnt mean give your lo rice off of a spoon, i meant he shouldnt be getting it at all. his body/digestive system isnt ready to deal with that yet.
i would feed like you are before i gave my lo rice
at the end of the day, hes growing, thats a good thing, i wouldnt be concerned about that, its more of a big deal if he is losing weight.
have you tried increasing the amount of each feed? then hopefully he wouldnt take as many throughout the day

Solids before 17 wks is not a good idea. It messes up with their system. Give it some time & see how it goes. Try to distract him by playing or taking him out. As scottishgal89 mentioned, there is a growth spurt at 2 mnths, & this could be the reason for taking more. xx
