What to expect goin private?

Hi
Hope im postin this in rite place and dont uset anybody
I have spoke to my Gynae doctors sec today and found out weve been bumped up to see fertility specialist not just gynae
So asked how long a wait,5MONTHS!!
Ive now enquired about goin private
I kno it will prob b expensive but its sumthin i want so much
We 3 kids,and a mmc last August,and really wnated 1 more
What will happen in our 1st app
And if we do need help/treatment will we thn receive it on the NHS?
Or will we have to stay private?Sorry i havent a clue yet,and dont kno what to expect,im 40 my hubbys 40 too,my sons r 18,11 and 21months

hi i can only tell you about my experience we waited about 3 mths for our first appointment and there they took swabs to check for infection and arranged blood tests and of course asked for details of our medical history how long trying etc they also arranged for me to have a hsg test and hubbys semen analysis we were then told it would be another 3 mths for 2nd appointment where we would get all the results (turned out to be 4 mths) on our next appointment it turn out we basically have no chance of conceiving naturally and need ivf ,because we have 1 child already we need to pay for this ourselves.

Thanks for sharing with me ur experiences!
I really dont kno what to expect myself?
I said if i dont hear bk by Fri frm Doctor i will ring then and ask to go see him
Think its the only way ahead for us! I think they did sumthin to me when they carried out the EPRC when i had my mmc last yr,i always fell pregnant easy b4 then,cant help but think its linked?
Just hope i can b fixed!!lol

i can sympathise with how you feel i had major bowel surgery when i was 21 a yr after i had my dd and it turns out that after 8 yrs trying to conceive and fighting for tests that my tubes are badly scarred from the surgery and cannot be repaired

What can they do to help you now?
Can you get help conceiving and carryin a baby?
I had my 21day bloods today,cant wait til they come bk!
Isnt it terrible how we wish our months away TTC?

the next step for us is on 1st november i go for an ultrasound to check if it is safe to collect my eggs if so we will be refered to a private clinic for ivf, if all is not well then we need to think about using donor eggs, on top of this we might not be able to start our treatment until march because my husband is due to go to afganistan at christmas

You sound as if ur under sum pressure!
Its so unfair isnt it?
Sum people are so lucky and it just happens!Even when they didnt want it 2!

basically the nhs will only be doing investigation with you.they will do things like bloods to check ovulation and progesterone after you ov.they might check your tubes and dh sperm.as for tx they wont pay for things like iui or ivf as you already have children.the nhs are really bad for funding.me and my husband found out we needed treatment at 22/23 without having any children.we werent allowed on a list because we were too young of all things.they might also check you blood to see if there maybe a reason why you mc.but as youve only had 1 mc they prob wont do anything.what have they said so far??as for treatment nhs are very strict.even if your partner had kids with a dif woman they wouldnt give you iui,ivf ect they are that bad.if youre thinking about private tx and you got the cash then do look around if you actually do need it

My doctor wasnt of much help really!
She thought well ur 40!Wise up!U hardly want another baby?
So when i wudnt take no for a answer she just said well i can see ur determened and nothin i can say will make u see sense,basically!!!!
Not very supportive at all,
I found out the waitin list is 5months!longlong time!
I rang my FS sec last wk and have enquired about private care,but havent heard frm him yet?
Its just so trustratin being stuck unable to help ourselves!!Aaarggghhh

She did my bloods last Thur when it was my 21st day!!!
I had a voicemail on my fone after work today frm her,she just asked cud i call her tomorrow?
Kinda dont kno what to expect now!!Surely its too early for results to b bk??
Im gonna pop into Holland&Barrett tomorrow and see if they have Angus Castus or Soya Iso? Im gonna try everything!! ;-)

They came bk yesterday,the receptionist gave them to me over the phone!
Serum FSH 1.4
Serum LH 2.3
Serum Oestradiol 1120
Serum Progesterone 47.7
Serum Prolactin 520
I asked her was that good,but she didnt know!!
So had to wait til doc rang me and seemingly they r great!!Wow!!
Im happy but kinda said if they r so great why arent i pregnant?
She didnt have a answer for me,but said maybe get a hysteroscopy to look at my tubes incase they r blocked!
So said we may go private,she said we cud and it wudnt mean once private we wud have to stay there!!We cud then go on NHS and it wud cut the wait by 5-7months!!Woo hoo..
