What to pack in hospital bag, and what is provided to you there?

Formula was available in Leeds when I had my daughter in nov 2012 & when my SIL had her son last September. Maybe it's just Huddersfield!

Another thing ild say to pack is your own pillow. My sil said the pillows they have a big plastic coated things and they wouldnt give her non plastic ones for health reasons so if your fussy about your pillow (like me) defintly take your own pillow.

 suppose it just depends on each hospital! I know in May 2012 they didn't provide it at Calderdale. I had my oldest in a diff area in 2009 and they did provide formula but at the beginning of my last pregnancy before we moved I remember seeing signs there too saying no formula provided.

They don't provide nappies or formula at my hospital in Middlesbrough either. When I had my little girl in 2011 I was told to bring some bottles and some formula cartons in case breastfeeding didn't work out.

I bottlefed DD and they had the little readymade bottles of aptamil and cow and gate milks, they were really handy, you didnt need to go making your own bottles at the hospital :) they were only little. I did pinch a few to take home with me hahaha, but then DD prefered her milk warmer and lots more than the little readymade bottles provided so i moved to normal powder formula and bottles :) Also I never seen anyone using the nappies up on the ward, everyone brought their own o assume.. but when DD got rushed to hospital 1 day old, she was up on the paediatric ward and they had cupboards with nappies in (cheapy looking ones) so I'm not sure if they were also used on the maternity wards aswel xx

I went to a child birth class last weekend. The labor nurse said to bring minimal as the hospital here provides most. They will give me nightgowns and just a johnny to use as a robe if I want one. They give underware (which she said is great and comfy!), pads for after, socks, slippers, baby food. She said to worry about books/mag, your own pillow, snacks, going home outfits and anything you want to make the room your own and relaxing. I was shocked!

Thats pretty good! But I also know most American hospitals provide a whole lot more than our hospitals do probably due to the NHS struggles!! I cant believe they even give you underwear!! haha x

Wow thanks for all your input ladies I sure have a lot to pack :)

Never would have thought you'd bleed that much though yikes

oh yes!! With my DS i had him put a pad on had lots of visitors (as it was visiting time) and within 30 minutes of having him i had bled through and all over the bed:/

Well that doesn't sound fun at all :(
What about going to the bathroom, is that going to hurt afterwards? I imagine you'd have some kind of throbbing sore pain down there?

For me it hurt to wee after (I didn´t have stitches just some grazing), until I found a miracle cure...do it with the shower hose between your legs! :haha:
To poo make sure you do the normal things to keep regular so you don´t have to strain and it´s fine.

Hahaha omg I actually didnt poo for about 3 weeks I was terrified as I had stiches and was scared of ripping again! I remember the pain of holding it in for so long even though i needed to go i just didnt want to, those were not fun times in my life!!! :P

One thing I was sooooo glad I packed last time was lip balm, after labour my lips seemed so dry and because it was warm in the hospital they got a bit cracked so I was really glad I had a lip balm, especially as I ended up staying in a couple of days. Just a little thing really but really helped!!
