My LO slept at his nanas last night.. Today she decided to give him some puréed chicken and veg and she said he loved it and has given me some to try it with.

I've decided to wait until he is a bit older before weaning and then do BLW so I'm a bit peed with the MIL but that's a different story.

Anyways, I'm going to try LO with a bit of this purée for his dinner tomorrow to see how he gets on... I'm going to offer him water too, so I give him cool boiled water or do I give him bottle water?

Well from 6 months you can just give normal tap water, no need to boil it as it's been treated to kill anything in it. I imagine the same is true for a younger baby, although your LO isn't much younger! However, I wouldn't give him anything to drink other than milk at first. You don't want him getting it confused with milk and filling up on it. He probably won't eat enough solids to need extra water for a while.

You can do BLW now btw, no need to wait for 6 months spot on. If you wanted to do it in the first place, why not give LO a pre-loaded spoon of the chicken stuff if you want to use it up, or just give him a bowl of it and let him use his fingers? We did BLW with both of mine (one at 24 weeks, one at 26 weeks) and both had things like porridge and soup straight away.

I use cool boiled water. I believe tap water is fine from 6 months. If there is no cooled boiled water I have given my DD who is 25 weeks some from the tap but she doesn't drink much more than a sip at the moment. It is advised to not give bottled water as the sodium levels are higher than babies should have. Evian though is said to have quite low sodium levels if you were out and about and needed to give the LO some water.

Okay thank you. I wouldn't give him tap water as I don't drink it myself, it tastes horrible where I live.

I thought LO needed to be able to sit unaided before I could start BLW? That's what my HV told me anyway.

Baby needs to be able to sit with minimal assistance, my LO was closer to 9 months before she could sit totally on her own.

If you can sit LOZ on your knee, hold his hips and he stay still then it's fine.
