We lost our son at 21 weeks due to unexplained PPROM. I was in labor for 30ish hours with contractions that hurt, but were manageable before they intensified to the point that I asked for an epidural. I was in the pushing stage for about an hour before he arrived.

Now we are pregnant again and I'm wondering what labor will be like with this baby if we go full term. They are monitoring me weekly and I'm on P17 shots so I'm hopeful we will make it to at least 36 weeks. I know they say a second child usually has a much shorter labor and pushing stage, but does that only apply in situations where you went full term with the first? Can anyone who has had/knows someone who had a loss around 21 weeks share what their labor was like with the next child?

I lost my daughter at 20 weeks in may 2010 and am due with my rainbow baby girl on Tuesday, so I would like to know this too! Congrats on your pregnancy hun, wishing you all the best xx

hi ladies, sorry for your losses :hugs: and congrats on your rainbows!!

I lost my milly at 19+ weeks 6yrs ago, i found the pain manageable until near the end where i had pethadine, i cant really remember time wiz got a bit messed up but i think roughly an hour for her to arrive sleeping. 3yrs later i went on to have my youngest, i went into labour 40+7 and it was so much more intense, i lost control of pain barrier at 8cm and had an epidural, her delivery ended up with emergency c section. xxx

I only have experience of the other way round. My daughter was born full term, and that was an 18 hour labour which included diamorphine and an epidural. She was a forceps delivery too. I didn't cope very well with the pain and it was all pretty traumatic!

In 2010 I lost a baby at 23 weeks. My induction took several hours to work but once it did, it was very quick (less than 2 hours) and the pain wasn't bad at all, I didn't even need gas & air.

I'm expecting this time round to be more like my first one. I assumed it was so easy second time because of the gestation. But I dunno, maybe not? I suppose I'll find out in June.

Good luck to everyone :hugs:
