What was your first cycle like after a chemical?

Hi,
I had a chemical pregnancy a few weeks ago (at least I think it was considered that, I was about 4 1/2 weeks, or 19 dpo)... I had heard that the next cycle can be a bit longer w/delayed ovulation, is that true? I had a m/c and a d&c on April 1st (baby passed at 9 weeks) and was advised to wait 3 months, I waited about 2 1/2 because I thought my body was ready but I guess it wasn't. But at that point my cycles were pretty much back to normal. Is this going to throw me off/set me back again? The doc advised me to wait through this cycle, not to try, because chances of another m/c are SLIGHTLY higher. I will probably do that, just because I obviously tried too soon last time and didn't have success (but whether or not it's related to the m/c and/or d&c I don't know). I guess the good news is that I was able to get pregnant quickly, but I just need to stay pregnant. I wonder if my lining just wasn't built back up again after the d&c? Also, I know that I've never had a chemical before because I always test early when there is a chance I am pregnant, and have never gotten a positive followed by a period.

Anyone have any thoughts/advice?

I am pretty much in the same boat as you . I m/c my daughter at 18wks and had a d/c in april and was told to wait 3 months before ttc. We just carried on as normal and i haven't conceived i think probably because of the lining not been ready like you said. I have had a lot of ovulation pain lasting for 8 days after, i am at the doctors later to check everything is ok. I think when you have a d/c it takes along time for your body to properly heal itself as they scrape the inside and that's why they recommend you wait 3 months. I will let you know what the doctor says later.

My cycles seemed to carry the same after my chemicals. x

I had a D&C May 19th. My period started exactly 30 days after. I had another cycle that ended two days ago. Everything has been right on time for me. As for the delayed ovulation, I can only say I remember getting bad ovulation cramps about a week before my period started, which would be delayed by a week+ for me. I think it was my body's way of making sure there wasn't a pregnancy that cycle. This cycle, I had ovulation cramps right on the day predicted by my WomanLog phone app., and my period started on the day predicted.
Your experience may vary. :haha:

This made me remember something. I use a menstrual cup (www.menstrualcups.org) for my period, so I'm fully aware of the color/consistency of my blood. I can say the first period after the D&C was pretty thin. This time it was a little thicker.

Thanks everyone, and sorry for all your losses. Tweety pie, do let me know what the dr says. It's really hard to wait through this cycle, because I think I'm starting to ovulate again, which is around the normal time for me. I used to know exactly when I ovulate because I would get the sharp pain (that's how I conceived my first!), but now I don't get that anymore, I just get about a week of abundant CM (which is good!) but can't pinpoint exactly when I ovulate unless I test.

So anyway, looks like this cycle (after the chemical) is pretty normal so far. Even after I had the D&C in April things regulated much sooner than I thought, and what my OB/GYN had told me. That's why I thought I was ready!! So frustrating, to not know when is the right time. I would hate to try too soon and go through it again. Especially another mmc. Having a mmc/d&c and chemical back to back really has scared me into ttc again.

Thinking of maybe doing some immune system testing? I had my first child and carried him to term just fine, no problems, but my immune system has changed a lot since having him.

Hi Steph, me again! I've also had my second mc but was basically a chemical as it was a week after I got my bfp. Sorry we keep meeting like this! :hugs:

I ovualted on Monday CD13 exactly the same day as last cycle! I also seem to have had a lot more cm then usual, especially as usually I have to drink a gallon of grapefruit juice to try and get more.

My Dr has now referred me to a fertility specialist and specifically told us not to TTC until we have seen them. We ended up being a little bit naugty though the day before I ovulated, I just felt more fertile and really didn't want to miss an opportunity. I really don't think we'll have cuaght again though as the 2 times I did get pregnant before, we went all out on the TTC, BDing everyday for a week before ovulation!!

It's interesting that you think it might be related to your immune system, I suspect the same and have started taking baby aspirin daily which can help xx

Hi lauraemily! Yes, so sorry to meet like this again... and I'm sorry about your recent loss too... wow sounds like we really are in similar situations. Let me know what you find out from the specialist. I'm having my doctor run a couple panels (one is the anti-phospholipid panel?) to look at any immune issues. And also just having a general workup done, looking for autoimmune stuff as well. Then I'll just go from there. If there are clotting issues, then I'll probably try the baby aspirin. I hope that the 2nd m/c was just because my lining wasn't built back up from the D&C. My doctor has me on red raspberry tincture, vitex, and false unicorn root. And of course, folic acid. Also trying out Fertili-tea & Fertile CM (which seems to be doing it's job!) My doctor might also put me on progesterone if I get pregnant again.

I understand your not waiting, haha... I think I am currently about to ovulate, and it's so hard to skip this cycle, a perfectly good opportunity! But I have to remind myself that I'm taking this time to get healthy again, (whatever that means)! It sucks cause everytime I think I'm ready and healthy, it doesn't work out.

Anyway, I hope we get some answers... either that or just go on to have a successful pregnancy so we don't have to worry anymore about this stuff. Keep in touch and let me know how it's going!
