Hi All,

thanks for reading, will try not to ramble lol!

OK, we had first baby 2009, went 10 days overdue (after nearly 3 weeks of on off contractions and slow dripping back waters), eventually got taken in and had failed induction, (couldn't dilate after hours on the drip contracting away) eventually, cutting a long story v short lol, had emcs, as baby's heart rate was dropping, they still had trouble getting him out, had to use forceps and managed to tear my cut/wound/scar a bit in the process. Afterwards they told me that the problems were caused because I have a heart shaped (bicornuate?) uterus (Am assuming that's why my natural contractions never kicked in?). Anyway, scar got infected, had few problems, recovery generally sucked and took forever (Approx 18 months) to be "normal" again!

So I am now pregnant again, nearly 34 weeks. Originally I was told by the consultant that the chances of needing a section were v likely as the reason I had one last time was because of my uterus shape. I had made my peace with this (pretty much expecting it to be the case before I even fell pg) anyway a couple of weeks ago I saw a different consultant (here I should probably add that the hospital hadn't provided either consultant with the notes from my previous delivery) anyway the new consultant said I stood a 7/10 chance of having a vbac and everything could be fine this time round, and that although he "wasn't supposed to influence me" he went on and on about the benefits of a vaginal birth over a section, faster recovery time etc etc. (As if I didn't know!)

Now I have another appointment in 2 days and don't really know what I want, I was up at the hospital last week with minor contractions lasting 2 mins on/2 mins off, but these eased off and have also been getting a lot of discomfort and a few short sharp pains in my scar area. FYI am measuring 36 weeks (3 weeks too big) so was wondering if a growth spurt sparked all this off

So.... I'm thinking as much as I would like a lovely easy VBAC (like the consultant told me lol) am I living in cloud cuckoo land and should I just go for the elective section?
The consultant's attitude was; surely the worst case scenario is the section so why not try for a nicer option first and have the section as a fall back if that doesn't work? I do get the theory but I really can't stand the thought of going through the same awful time I had last time again?

I hope all this makes sense, I would love to know what would you chose if you were me?

Thanks for reading!

I'd choose the section, but I have a crazy, irrational fear of natural childbirth. I had a scheduled (non-em) section, and it was fine! I'm planning to do it again if I'm blessed with another little one.

how long was your recovery after elective section?
- I think my previous experience has given me a fear of the "unknown" of natural childbirth lol!

Anyone else have any opinions?

I have to tell them my decision on thursday and i have no idea what i want! to do! - sorry I know there are other threads like this and have read most (if not all) of them!

Recovery was a few weeks. My lo was in the nicu for two weeks pp, so I was back and forth to the hospital every day, doing 12 hour days (easily), which was tough. But no infections or anything. All in all, it wasn't terrible, but I remember wishing I could be home with lo b/c I just had to do too much. I felt like my body was beaten, but it was b/c I was doing steps two days after the section (no one told me no steps).

I would definitely go for the c-section! i had to have an emergency c-section with my daughter and i plan to have an elective c-section this time round x

I would go for the elective c-section, my labour was very much like yours except i wasn't told about the shape of my uterus. This time around we are opting for an elective section, it would be nice to try the vaginal birth first but couldn't bare going through what happened last time and still ending up with a section.
