My LO slept through for 7 hours last night and I am sure would have slept for longer had I not gone in and woke her up to feed at 4.30am. I want too leave her sleep but my HV said that she must not be left longer than 6 hours without taking a feed and I already felt naughty leaving it an extra hour
When I asked her why saying that surely if Megan slept through it meant that she wasn't in need of food and throughout the day she is being fed (by her own body clock) every 4 hours and is taking 4-5oz she told me that you shouln't let babies sleep through if they weigh under 11 pounds. Well Megan is only 5 weeks old and weighs 8lb 4oz on the last count but she is really contented and robust. Do you think I should let her lead and feed her when she asks or keep waking her up in the night??

Hi there, just same happened with me and Carmen last night she is 5+4 weeks. She had a feed at 8pm last night and she was very colicky after and took her ages to settle, I was expecting her to take some food 10-11at night but she never did. I woke up myself at 4.30 realising that she hasn't fed yet :O So I woke her up myself luckily she did wake and took some food. I have no idea how long she would of gone for. She did eat 4oz and fell back to sleep. Woke up at 8am for feed and took 4oz and I am considering waking her my self now (its 12 AM as I have been told that they should really eat every 3-4 hours and that they shouldn't go more than 6hrs without feed at night. Gosh I must say that her feeding habits change so often cannot wait for some kind of routine : )
I would wait till Megan reaches the 11lb limit and is bit older and then if she wants to sleep through She can. (I will probably do the same with Carmen)

Thanks for that. It would be interesting to get the views of any mums who let their babies sleep through as well though, as I am sure there must be some babies sleeping through without being at the 11lb threshold. Maybe I am just wishful thinking that I may get some sleep haha!!

My daughter was sleeping like that 5 weeks. She slept 7-3 then on till 7.My HV never told me this. She was born 8lb9 so was over 11lb by then. But either way i would never wake her for a feed in the night. what i did was before she droped the feed she was feeding every 4 hours so when she drpped the feed i started feeding every 3 hours instead to give her the lost feed,

At 6 weeks she was 12lb and started sleeping 11 hours in a row. This was great considering that for the 1st 4 weeks she didnt sleep more than an hour at a time.

Thanks hun, can I just say as well I love your picture. It always makes me smile when I see it! She is such a little cutie! :flower:x
I am so torn, I know Megan is only a tiddler but she always, always lets us know when she is hungry and doesn't miss a feed at all during the day. Just this week as well she has started to take 5oz of formula rather than the 3-4 that she was taking so I am wondering if she is just nicely full by the evening! I know inmy heart of hearts that I will probably carry on waking her until she reaches the 11lb mark just because I don't like to think of her being hungry but last night she only took an ounce when I woke her up and then went striaght back to sleep.

My LO was the same. When she 1st dropped a feed i woke her up. She only took a sip and then fall asleep agagin. I tried this twice and then gave up. She always lets me no when she is hungry. she was on 6oz then but is a bigger baby. By the sounds of it she has uped her oz during the day. How much does she have and how often?

Thanks for the comment on the picture. This was the 1st bath she had that she loved. She has made this face since birth but dont no it anymore

She has upped her oz in the day. She now has 5 oz at each feed and feeds regular as clockwork every 4 hours during the day.

As for Kaceys face she is pulling, Megan pulls exactly the same face but usually just before she has a poo lol!!! They are such cuties with their little funny faces they pull aren't they? I could look at Megan for hours when she does that. I have attached her version of the same picture!

im a bit confused about why hv said this. as long as shes getting plenty milk in her awake time during the day then i dont see a problem with leaving her to sleep.
if she was hungry she would wake up and let you know!!
leave her to sleep and see how you get on :hugs:
my lo was sleeping threw young as well and she stopped feeding threw the night.
as long as she doesnt go too long she'll be fine :flower:

alice was sleeping through before she was 11lb and i wouldnt wake her up. imo if there hungry they will wake up and aslong as they have enough in the day then i dont see the need in waking them up in the night.

Thanks girls, I am going to see how she goes tonight. She has eaten loads today and is due her last feed before us going to bed at 10.00 so I will give her that one and time how long she sleeps for. I think I could understand it if she was born early or underweight when born but she was born on her due date and was an average weight at 6lbs 10oz. She has put on weight at every weigh in, even the first weigh in so she is definitely not going hungry.

josh did that at 5 weeks to and i just left him! like you said, if they're hungry, they'll wake up!! x

my son is 2.4 but i still feed him in 3-4 hours in the night.
he also only takes 3-4 oz milk at a time so i have to feed him more frequently.
