Hi all,
I'm currently 11wks with baby #4 and was hoping for a Home Birth this time around.
When I saw the MW for my booking appointment I mentioned it to her and although she said personally she would be happy to attend the birth and would support me I would be unlikely to be allowed one.
Factors were, I had a Emergency section in 2001 for undiagnoised breech.
I am to be under consultant care and need to attend VBAC clinic and perhaps counselling.
Now I understand that these would be offered but...I've had 2 very lovely VBAC's since, all pain relief free and the last being 1hr30minutes. I've never seen a consultant or been to any VBAC clincs.

Do you think there is any way I could convince the consultant to allow me a HB?

We're 30mins from hospital in good traffic, 50 minutes on a bad day. I think all going well baby would probably not be hanging around really with the thinking that each baby goes quicker.
I wanted to stay home to be close to my family and children, hopefully have a relaxed HB in my surroundings. I've nothing against going to hospital at all, I just feel its a bit much after 2 successful VBACs to say I need all this extra attention.

i would tell your MW that its what you are plannning and if she cant support you then you will request to have a different MW

It's your choice not theirs, just be polite and firm. The law requires them to support your choice.

They can't 'allow' you to do anything. They can offer a recommendation, but it's ultimately your choice and she's just spouting off a lot of complete BS. Actually, I think you sound like someone who is exactly the kind of person who is perfect for home birth. You've had two natural births in hospital and the c-section wasn't for some 'complication' that has a risk of recurring when you are in labour. They should clearly be able to tell if baby is breech and can check again when you're in labour at home if there are any concerns. And you are likely to have a really short labour. So home birth sounds perfect. I think your midwife is just being a grumpypants. They can recommend you see a consultant and attend the VBAC clinic, which you can do if you feel it will help you and not stress you out, but you don't have to do those either. You can sign yourself off of consultant care if they advise it and you don't have to go to any appts you don't want to. And none of that can have any bearing on you having a home birth. Just let them know now that it's something you will likely do. Then tell them again at your 34 or 36 week appt, so they can schedule a home visit or having you pick up the home birth kit. That's all you need to do. Then just call them when in labour and they'll have to attend you. It's their job.

Thanks for the replies.
I dont think the MW team get many HB's around here, but so far I've not heard anything else from them, I will talk to them again at my next appointment in 3 weeks and really try to get my point across.
Thanks again and for the link. Its bookmarked now :)
