is it to much?

i think thats messing too much with Gos creation if you ask me...

I wonder if people feel it's different from egg and sperm donation, as well as surrogacy where people pick others based on looks, intelligence, job, sporting ability, etc?

wrong wrong wrong wrong on soooooooooo many levels.. fancy wanting to pick what your child looks like.. I think its awful

very diffrent with surrogacy u want a baby that will have same hair and eyes as the person brining up baby so thers no questions asked but 2 go in 2 a clinic and say i want a baby with blonde hair blue eyes and so on is just wrong.. people should just be greatful 2 have a baby

quite simply - yes it is too much I think it borders on unethical

Edited to add I can understand elimating genetic diseases but not choosing how your child looks or the sex

I think its a bit weird to be honest, after all just having a baby is a miracle, would you really be bothered whether it had blue or green eyes?

Although may be that's a LTTTCers view?

I think it will be blown out of proportion and in fact very few will bother about it. May be a few people who are bothered and have the cash.

But as Rafwife said .. its no different to choosing a sperm donor because you want the chance of a baby with dark/light skin or green/blue eyes .... wanting one who has a degree/phd etc to try to increase the chances of a bright kid.
No different for a mother to say 'I want my baby to have my colour hair ...'

Meh .... over blown, over priced and currently not available over here!

while you are there are you able to have a cuppa with other parents and pick your future childs spouse too??

good argument there ...

i just wonder if i was put on that situation what will i do ?

in ivf don't they ask parents the sex they will prefer already ?

Don't really know how I feel about it tbh. Not religous in the slightest so that side of the coin doesn't bother me.

I wish my mother had this option with me: Make me blond and more tanned, with a cuter nose and bigger bewbs

But seriously.. Think it's a lil extreme as it kinda opens a whole can of worms with how far can someone push it. Though I don't see why it would be a problem to pick the sex that you want for your child. I would pick a sex if it was possible with my treatment. x

I think its too much! But then maybe it seems weird now but who knows everyone might be doing it in a few years!

Goodness, I'm all for having the option for genetic problems etc but to pick eye and hair colour...surely we'll all end up looking like Stepford Wives one day - creepy!!!

They ask in IVF if you want to choose the baby's sex, but in my case that will add another $3,500 dollars!! In fact, my IVF Dr said some couples go through IVF to choose a baby's sex and not because of fertility problems. WTF?! I don't care about the sex or what color eyes it has, I just want a baby! I want my pregnancy to be like everyone else, where I find out at about 20 weeks or so.

And yes, I do think it's a bit much. I feel it borders on unethical like CareBear said.

I agree with most of the posts that it is unethical, and quite sad for the resulting babies to be born into a family which is obviously so shallow.

Frankly they should be grateful to be having a baby, not be worried about what hair colour etc the baby has, as long as the treatment was successful & the result is a healthy baby I honestly would not care (even if the baby has my ginger hair! )

i think i get the choice as my testings allows then to look but we desided they either put one of each in or suprise us we wont pick....

I think it's terrible. I can't believe how far humans are willing to push science. Are we never going to get to the point where we say, well yes we could do that but we wont. I can't understand what sort of parent would even have a preference.

It makes me sad that embryos would be destroyed because they don't have the right hair or eye colour. What kind of message is that sending out? How many people alive today wouldn't have even been born if this had been available earlier? And who are we to decide what are preferable features to have? I know I'm being really opinionated here, but I really wonder if people who would want to choose such superficial traits in their children should even be having them.

Anyway, the more I type the more I'm getting wound up, so I'm going to take a deep breath and leave it there!!

xx

It sounds like an early form of ethnic cleansing...

Eww.... tacky!
It's cool they have come so far in science to achieve that possibility but..
I feel those details should be left to nature...I think half the joy of being pregnant & having a baby is the element of surprise when they first show you your newborn, seeing where his/her features come from ect, ...people wanting their babies to literally be built from the ground up... it's like buying a car and adding features...ek!

I can deff see narcissistic celebs doing this in a few years!

xx

Someone above mentioned a person wanting a baby with blonde hair, blue eyes, etc.

God, imagine Designer Babies were possible when Hitler was still in power.
