Hi Everyone...

I thought it was time to move over from the TTC forum as we are starting our 13th cycle. I was hoping you guys could tell me what you have experienced and kinda give me some ideas as to what our options are now.

We've been TTC for 13 cycles and have tried Clomid 50mg and 100mg. Femera 2.5 and recently decided to get off the medication and give it another go naturally. Well, after 3 cycles and not even a hint of a positive test I think I'm ready to try something else.

I'm currently waiting on lab results to make sure my thyroid medication is accurate and if that comes back normal then I will be making an appointment with a new OBGYN that my friend goes to and has loved and has now conceived successfully twice. My doctor just doesn't seem overly concerned so I think I need to make a change.

I was just hoping to find out what might be next. After failing at clomid and femera and now ovulating on my own but still not getting pregnant what should I expect?? Injectable? IUI? What are my options going to be?

Thanks ladies!

Hi there, I have conceived twice on clomid currently I'm 8 months pregnant. 1st was on round 3 of clomid this time was on round 4 but the difference with this one was I was given a hcg injection around the time of ovulation it makes you ovulate with in 36 hours of having the shot found out 12 days later I was pregnant.my next choice would have been iui when I chose to. I had no idea I had a thyroid problem until I went to the specialist I started out on synthroid 25 mcg now I'm up to 50 mcg, I conceived approximately on my 2nd month of thyroid medication.good luck

Hey I'm in the same boat...ovulate on 100mg but just haven't conceived. .. going to a fertility specialist next week... I'm guessing next step iui... sounds expensive though. ..

I was thinking about asking the doctor about an HCG shot. I'm not currently doing any medications for fertility since nothing worked but willing to give it another try. I'm going to make an appointment to talk to the doctor once I get my results for my thyroid back.

Funny you said within 2 months you were pregnant. My thyroid specialist said he thought I'd be pregnant within 2 months also but I just past the 2nd cycle of my new medication and I am still not pregnant. I'm anxious to see my results and hopefully they are normal again. I was on 137 mcg and now I'm up to 150mcg(which I like a lot more!)

I think I read somewhere that IUI runs around $700 a cycle or at least that was the case here in AZ. Good luck with your appointment!!!

Call around ! Prices vary per clinic and specialist as well as if you're monitored and if your insurance will cover anything.

We did 6 months on our own after cleared tubes before we went to the RE. My insurance covered infertility treatment but not fertility treatment, so they paid for the HSG and the tubal opening and the RE visits.

We DID opt for the monitored cycle because we knew one tube was open but the other was questionable, so ultrasound was used to determine which side i was ovulating on. The downside is the first cycle was on the side they later (after the IUI) determined was in fact closed. Insurance covered the ultrasound and office visit (sort of, we hadn't met our deductible yet) but did NOT cover the actual cost of IUI or medications. We paid $352 for the IUI itself, the Clomid was what like $25-40 and we could have paid for a trigger shot but opted not to. The trigger was $100 OOP. The first cycle on the open side i did get pregnant, and im currently 30 weeks

Now we were suggested a particular Walgreens to go to for the trigger shot, as they deal with fertility. The trigger shot there was $100, if we had gone to another Walgreens they wouldn't have carried it, would have had to order it AND it would have been more expensive, around $140.

You can see an RE and get an IUI without ultrasound monitoring, with or without trigger shots, clomid, femera or whatever else and it may be a lot cheaper. Obviously you dont want to go 6 rounds of IUI and have it fail but there are some options :)

After x number of IUI most RE's will then suggest looking into IVF. I believe it's after 6 rounds your chances dont increase, BUT there might be something else that can be done, additional testing, monitoring etc

As a side note if your cycles are textbook, you ovulate on routine and have a period on routine and have had other blood work, etc I wouldn't get a trigger shot necessarily unless doing an IUI. Also they CAN cause pregnancy symptoms without pregnancy so it's just one of the things to think about, likewise with Clomid
