What's going wrong??? Toasted Cake??

Ok, so I was making Lemon Drizzle Cake.

It took quite a while for the skewer to come out clean.
The top was very brown and then when I took the cake out of the loaf tin it had a dry brown, sort of toasted crust all over :cry:

The cake inside was nice :dohh:

What did I do wrong?

Temperature was right. It is a fan oven, but it took slightly longer than the recipe time to get to a clean skewer :/
