Hey girls

I wanted to create a thread for us TTC ladies to compare our day 21 progesterone levels.

I have been TTC for 9 months (10 cycles) with no luck unfortunately. :( I have had day 21 bloods done (in UK) and my result was 26nmol/L which meant it was "highly likely" I ovulated (my result said "over 10 but under 30", so I think they like it to be over 30). My cycles are 26-30 days long and my LP is typically 12 days (though I spot on day 12 and LP has been 10 or 11 days in the past). I have high free androgen index, but other hormones within normal range. Had an internal ultrasound and no cysts. Trying to relax but interested to know what results you ladies got and what your doc said. My doc told me to cont trying until Dec and he may put me on fertility meds (which I am confused about as I thought that helped your O and I am Oing).

Good luck to you all!

oooh, thankyou i shall be watching this with ineterst, as i've just had my first progesterone test and the result doesnt make sense . . well to me at least

Hi, I had mine tested last mth & they came back at 51.6

My gp done the test cos we have been trying over 2 yrs now & 3 mc's later we still haven't got baby no2. I was told if they come back that I'm not ov'ing then i would be given Clomid but apprently I am so he wouldn't give me a prescription Grrrr xx

I am intersted in this thread too, I am going to try to get my Dr to do this test. I have been TTC #2 for 9 months with one MC. I know that I O, but it is late in my cycle and my LP is only 11 days with spotting around 9dpo, so I think my progesterone might be low. FX'd my Dr. will do this test for me this month!

hmm, this just motivated me to do a search based on UK results as yes the Uk results are different to the rest of the world (hence my chat with some of the US ladies earlier causing me to question the competency of the receptionist at my local surgery) so my level of 21 is actually right and just shows i have poor ovulation.
They like the level to be over 30 for good ovulation, so 21 is poor, but seeing as my test was actually done on what technically would have been day 20 (i OV'd late) i'm optimistic it can be remedied easily.

Hey I have been on clomid 2 cycles with progestrone levels at 1.2 on 50 mg and 6.4 on 100 mg so dr is putting me on metformin to see if that will get me higher progestrone at cd 21. Yesterday I had spotting and my nipples have been sore since cd 16 and they still are which they normally stop with the soreness when af is arriving but this morning no blood and nipples still sore.

Hi Blackpanther, sorry to hear of your losses. Sounds like your progesterone levels are OK (at least from what I have read) so hopefully your doctor will assist you in doing some further investigations to find out what was causing the miscarriages. Big hug to you. Hang in there hun. x

Twinkie - Good luck with docs testing your progesterone level for you. I think you ought to really push for them to do it. It is relatively inexpensive for them to do it so fingers crossed it wouldn't require too much convincing. Keep us posted on your levels and what the docs suggest. Best of luck!

Joycie - I have a similar issue to you - progesterone is sub 30 but indicates ovulation. I had my day 21 test completed on day 22 actually (21 was a Sunday), which was 5 DPO for me, so perhaps that my prog level hadn't peaked yet. That said, it was a week from AF so who knows. It would be interesting to see whether my docs will prescribe Clomid and whether it will help.

Resque- I think the units used in the US is different to the UK so your test numbers prob aren't comparable to ours. Our results are in nmol/L. What kinda level is ideal for a day 21 test over there?

Anybody else want to join our progesterone chat/comparisons? :)

had mine done but it was on a weird month but showed 1.0mg so the doc said im either not ovulating or im irregular :( gutted.

In the US measuring system, day 21 progesterone =

Without meds: 9 (over 5 is ovulating)
On 50 mcg clomid: 30, 31
On 5 mg letrozole: 38

mine was 3.3nmol on cd21 last cycle... that cycle went for 80 days so makes sense. currently on cd 80 of the next cycle and still waiting for AF so i can start clomid

Well I talked to my Dr. today and he didn't even want to test my progesterone level, he just looked at my chart and said that he would like for my LP to be longer than 11 days and gave me a prescription for it! It kind of sucks that I don't know where my level was starting out, but at least I don't have to wait another cycle, I can start taking it this cycle!

good luck with clomid itsy.

twinkie- im surprised that ur doc prescribed clomid just like that. has your dh had sa done? your doc thinks an lp of 11 days in bad? interesting... i thought a lot of docs dont "believe" in luteal phase defects?

I am really confused..

I got my 7dpo progesterone levels taken today for my first cycle on clomid and they came back 17.2. My DR was elated and said anything over 15 is considered good if medicated.

I dont understand why my DR would say over 15 and your guys DRs are saying over 30? All that is needed to sustain a pregnancy is 15.. although the higher the better obviously. BUt that doesnt indicate poor ovulation.

No he didn't prescribe clomid, just progesterone supplements (sorry I should have been clearer :)), but that is a step in the right direction. And since I do O on my own, hopefully this will work!

He thinks that 11 days with spotting at 9 dpo is too short I guess (and this is every cycle for the past 9 months, not just one or two).

DH hasn't had a SA done yet, but we haven't reached the 1 year mark yet, and I am not going to a FS, just my regular OB/GYN.

My Dr. does believe that low progesterone is a problem. Mine was low during my last pregnancy and I look supplements twice a day until it was verified that the pregnancy was nonviable. I was worried too that he wouldn't think it was a problem, but he said it could be!

Oops.. I just realized you guys were using a different measuring unit.

Well, my results were 17.2ng/ml and my DR said I definitely ovulated. So hopefully that results in a bfp.

FX'd for you!

Tryin - from what I have read, 17.2 ng/ml is a great number. I hope this works for you! Would you mind sharing how long you have been TTC and why you were put on Clomid?

Twinkie- ahhh I see. Well prog supplements sound like they could work for you. Best of luck for that BFP! I have 10-12 day LP, mainly 12 but with spotting on day 12. My periods are also much lighter this yr compared to last and I wonder whether it is due to lower prog levels (my understanding is that prog thickens the lining). Hmm... Any views?

Of course!!

I stopped taking birth control in May and have been properly trying since then.. so 4 months before I got clomid but 5 all together. I didnt ovulate after stopping birth control but had several LH surges (with smileys and dip strip) and had a progesterone blood test after almost every time that came back with no ovulation. I also didnt get AF this entire time. So after the like sixth time of my primary telling me that I hadnt ovulated even though I had an insanely positive OPK, I got upset and called my OBGYN and asked for help. He listened and gave me provera to jump start my period and then said he was going to give me clomid to make me ovulate. I didnt expect it but I had hoped for it. Lol.

Anyway, he said that he can only call it us trying to make my cycles start back up and nothing about fertility as insurance wont want to cover any of it. So even though he knows it is for fertility he has to pretend it is just to make my cycles start.

I used conceive plus and softcups and we dtd 2 days before, the day before, the day of, and the day after (I think.. lol) so we did all we could do this cycle. I just hope it works!

That is exactly what my Dr said! In fact he is having me start taking it on CD 16 even though I don't O until CD 21. I asked if he really wanted me to take it before I ovulated and he said yes, that he wants to make sure my endometrium is nice and thick! So I am going to take 200mg of progesterone from CD 16-35 (we'll see if I really get to a 35 day cycle, I'm doubtful). I don't know if my periods are lighter than they were or not. They last 8 days now, but most of the days are a really light flow, with only one heavy day.
