When did you start using a pushchair instead of pram?

My 12 week old is barely fitting into the carrycot for his Oyster pram. He also hates lying down (maybe due to his reflux?). His head control is pretty good, and he's quite a sturdy boy, if not overly big, at around 13lbs plus.

When do you think I could start using the pushchair seat instead? It doesn't fully recline, but almost does. It also can face me so I could keep an eye on him.

The instructions say 6 months but he'd be like a sardine in a tin by then!

Thanks for any opinions/advice. Xxx

I never used a pram- just my pushchair in a full recline position. My LO used to get annoyed lying down too- so I sat her up in it around 4 months- made such a difference, she could see what was going on and was much happier. I just made sure there was plenty of padding around her- I used a nice thick blanket underneath.

About 16 weeks my lo never really went out in carrycot as were in middle of no where. So she was in her caRseat which attatched to the wheels. But she has outgrown it alreadt x

8-10 weeks. I also have a reflux baby, refused to lie down, but even before that he wasn't in the pram, he was in the car-seat which attached on top of the buggy (we have a silver cross travel system thing - it's very annoying), he was fine in the buggy though with a thick cosytoes under him to stop him flopping to either side......we put him in the buggy part because he started screaming whenever he went into the car seat, and when we tried him in it he just stared at everything with a wide open mouth lol, seems to love it!

about 12 weeks here... he was fine in pram if asleep but hated being awake in it as could not see anything! for same reason he hated being fully reclined in pushchair so i had it slightly up for him and he loved it! my dd was in pushchair from birth as i had twin buggy so no choice there!

I think we're going to move to the seat in the next couple of weeks. We have bugaboo cameleon which has quite a big carry cot but lo is getting snug in it (19 weeks, 17lb) and mostly too nosey to lie down, she wants to see out.

Rex was about 13 weeks when we switched him. He hated lying flat in his carrycot too so just thought if try him in the buggy part one day & he was loads better. Ours does fully recline for sleep & has 2 other positions so I had him in the one that was more laid back.

I did it about 16-18 weeks and it wasn't until he was 6 months that I let him sit up in it

Thanks everyone - does anyone have any experience with the Oyster?

LO is 15 weeks, im thinking of doing it soon. He doesn't mind being in the carrycot but i think he's getting a bit big and he's so nosey so i think he'd like to look around.

My LO is 5 month old (or 23 wks) and still fits nicely into her pram. She was 13lb 14oz at her weigh in on Tues. I think when she starts to pull herself up or gets annoyed regularly I'll put her in the pushchair. The pram bit cost an extra £150 so I'm getting as much use out of it as I can! She looks so cute sleeping in there in her snowsuit too :)

I know! It's ridiculous - mine was £100. Wish I'd just bought a convertible pram thing or straight to a buggy. He does look cute in his snowsuit in it right enough, with wee rosy cheeks when it's cold out!

Sorry, no experience of the Oyster. However, our baby is big for his age, suffers from bad gas/wind/reflux and also did not like being flat. Absolutely loved it when we put him in the pushchair and that was at 14 weeks. I think he just loves looking around and the carrycot did not allow him to do that. So pleased we did it. We were lucky that our pushchair had a head hugger with it but if your baby has good head control I'd imagine he would be okay.

Immediately as our pushchair is specifically designed to be used from birth and the carrycot bit weighs a ton-so I used it instead of a moses basket instead xx

5 months. Our infant seat went on the push chair and LO was tired of being so reclined. She loves sitting up straighter in just the push chair part.

Hollie didnt start using her pram (jane slalom pro travel system) till 7 months i was baby wearing but with an ever growing bump i needed the pram, its plenty big enough for her till she not wanting to be in there any more, though she did just get a smart trike for her birthday, so we will probs use that now.

Wow! I'd love to baby wear but my back already kills me in the baby bjorn and babasling. I'm very impressed!
