When did you take your newborn out??

My little girl is 11 days old... going out consists of riding around in the car so far, but not actually leaving the car.

I was wondering when did you all decide to take your newborn to the grocery store or around bigger crowds of people??I have a 3 and five year old who are really looking forward to going to a pumpkin patch and going trick or treating for Halloween but I'm just not sure about taking my newborn out.

I Googled and read horrific stories on other forums of women who's babies caught meningitis or other diseases and passed away. Scared me a bit to say the least.

With both of my daughters I took them out from a few days old. We got discharged from hospital on day 3 both times and probably on day 4 or 5 I took them out.

I had my son on the Wednesday, left hospital on the Thursday and nipped into Asda to get formula and nappies, dropped my eldest at school on the Friday morning and then went to our local action play centre on the Saturday! So a pretty full on few days for a new born but he was fine!

There's nothing wrong with taking them out straight away. The chances of them catching anything are very small and consider that babies born in a hospital are walked out through a hospital potentially with sick people very close by. Obviously you would want to avoid someone directly sneezing/coughing over the baby etc but being out, especially in fresh air, is fine. My little guy was born on the Friday and he came with us to the park on the Monday.

Pretty much straight away as I have a two year old who still needed to be taken to activities and kindy. You really don't need to keep them segregated, though avoiding anyone obviously sick is a no brainer.

Thanks ladies. I was much more open to taking my previous two out early on. I think I just worry now about my 3 and 5 year old touching everything and them catching something and getting my newborn sick.

My 2 year old did actually get my newborn sick. DS1 caught a cold in DS2's first week of life and lo and behold I had a snuffly newborn too. Not taking the newborn out won't stop this - let's be honest, older siblings are germ factories!

When he was 3 days old we went to Tesco.
I can see why you'd be concerned but those stories are most likely just coincidences.

Try and go during quiet times, take bucket loads of hand sanetiser and be prepared to slap anyone's hand who tries to touch her.

We went to ASDA when our LO was four or five days old, and I wore her in a sling. She was fine, but I felt like shit, with an aching pelvis and general exhaustion! I spent most of the time sitting down on a chair in the clothing section, and a bench by the checkouts lol.

It was absolutely lovely though (for me anyway, I guess some people wouldn't like it) to have so many people come up to look at her and ask questions, and see their faces melt when they learned how newborn she was. I was SO proud and overjoyed to show her off lol. I still love going out with her even now as she always gets so much attention. :D

She didn't catch any sort of illness until she was about 4.5 months old, when she got a cold, and was over it in a couple of days. It's all down to personal preference I guess - people are going to want to look at your beautiful new baby ... they are total gorgeous people magnets. As it is germ season though, she may be more likely to catch something, so if you do go out, you might want to impose a 'look but don't touch' rule!

Lo was born on Monday we got out of hospital on Tuesday and we have been out every day since lol we needed things from the shops on Wednesday and we've been to register her Thursday, and been for s meal. been to see family and friends too. And another couple of shop visits. We've just got on with things really but not been around ill people. After months of spd hell its been bliss being able to walk!

So happy your SPD has cleared up so you can finally move around comfortably!!

My anxiety has been horribly. Im either worrying about my LO getting sick or im worrying about my bleeding because I had a PPH with my 2nd... so im constantly worrying about something. I feel like i cant enjoy anything!
I already barely leave the house as it is because im afraid its going to make my bleeding get heavy.

I hope it wasn't my story of Eve that has scared you, I'm sorry if that's the case as Id never intend to frighten anyone. If it's any reassurance meningitis is generally passed on by very close contact- the bacteria can only survive in the air for a couple of seconds.

I have always taken my babies out from being a couple of days old- I have 5 kids so we are always busy and out and about and I'm a firm believer that fresh air does them good 😊

Thanks Hun omg it's so good!

I know what you mean about anxiety. I've had to push away a lot of intrusive thoughts, but so far been doing quite well at dismissing them x

I hope your bleeding doesn't get heavier and the anxiety eases x

Ds1 was born on Monday, we were discharged on Wednesday then we went out for a walk on Thursday.
Da2 was born and discharged on a Wednesday and we went out on the Friday
Ds3 was in neonatal special care for two weeks but we went out the day after he was discharged.

I love pushing my pram and can't wait to take them out when they are so little

We went home on day 2; had friends over for a 0 years birthday party (complete with cake with 0 candle made by my dad and dd1) on day 3; toy shop for a Topsy and Tim book signing plus playground on day 4; Church on day 5; swimming pool day 6 (though DD2 and I just watched DD1 and daddy swim!). We like to get out and about right from the start. DD2 was very, very happy snuggled in the sling. Do what ever you're physically and emotionally up to. :)

The only germs my newborn caught were from my 3-yo, brought back from preschool.

My baby was in hospital until 10 days old. The hospital she was transferred to was the other side of London. So when I brought her home I did so in the sling, by public transport, at rush hour. I'm sure there were germs a plenty.

We took my son out at 2 days old. Day after we got home
