When did your baby start using a walker, we're planning on buying one for Ruby at the weekend, i've heard it should be after 6months but Ruby is already 19lbs and a real livewire she doesn't keep still for a minute and is quite physically advanced for her age.....

Anyways this is the one we've picked https://www.mothercare.com/My-First...ing=UTF8&m=A2LBKNDJ2KZUGQ&n=42824041&mcb=core

has anyone else got one of these for their LO?

Jenson has one now and we sit him in it . Hes still dinky in it! We did use a blanket to prop him up, gut he can stay upright now!

That is so cute!!

My LO went into a walker at about 5-6 months. It is great to keep them amused for a while each day. Couple of things I would say is that it is handy to have a tray on the walker. I sit my LO in it for lunch and put finger food on it for her to munch on. Also don't spend too much on it as they grow out of it really quickly once they are moving about and cruising etc but I do still use it when I have to go out of the room so I know she will still be there when i get back :haha:

Isaac has been using his for the last week. He can't move it around as he's not yet strong enough, but it's fun watching him bash the bits and bobs on the tray!

Him standing in it has edef. strengthened his legs, so I'd say go for it :)

Very nice and pink too ;)

DS started using his cousins when we'd visit when he was about 5-6 mos. He inherited it by 7 mos and now happlily shuffles up and down the living room in it -- he LOVES it!

I do try to not keep him in it too long though.

Tonight while visiting his cousin again, he used her push-walker and surprised us all by doing it without us having to hold him. He's still quite wobbly with his balance, but he's determined and has no fear. I love that about him!

Just bear in mind that the walker encourages babies to try to walk on their toes instead of their feet as normal which can produce shortened tendons in the feet arches which can affect balance when they start walking unaided. It also promotes the development of the muscles in the lower legs rather than the upper legs and thighs which are more important for them to walk.

So all in all, if you're going to use a walker, don't allow them in it for too long :)

We started using it at 7 mnths. But he's too long for it now, so no more walker for Omar.

I am sorry to be a downer but wanted to at least let you know this info (not dissing your choices at all, please understand that! :) )

My bubs definitely won't be using a walker - they are legal here in the Netherlands but they are strongly discouraged as they are considered to be bad for the baby's hips/legs and a lot of children get into accidents with them. They fall down stairs or are able to reach dangerous things. Walkers are actually illegal in Canada for this reason (really - you can Google it!)

Anyway like I said I am not having a go at you or acting all hoity-toity about your choices - just wanted to mention it in case you weren't aware. If you know this, then you can take extra care with stairs and things that your baby might get into when using the walker.

Omar has been using his walker for around 3 mnths, & was in a jumperoo since he was 4 mnths. He's almost walking now. He's standing alone for few mins, & today he took 2 steps. So it didnt affect his muscles development. We stopped using it today as he already out grew it, & now it's the right time to encourage him to walk alone xx

Is this the same for things like door bouncers, jumperoo etc? Just coz my lo is on his toes in his jumperoo I don't want that happening to him :( xx

Im sure that your lo is just fine. Just limit the time they are in it

Ive used walkers with all 9 of mine

Don't worry! It's the same with everything in life - moderation is best

No hon, it's the action of moving themselves forward etc, not just jumping up and down x

River was in her walker at about 6 months but we stopped using it at 8 months as she could crawl and was walking at 9

Oh ok phew lol thought I'd found something else to worry about then!! Xx

I put Korben in his last week because he's so hard to entertain and gets fed up with his Jumperoo after about 10 mins, now he finds it funny chasing the dog around the lounge :haha:. So 5mths 1wk x

We have the blue version of that walker but it's lying here unused since he started crawling also I warn you in advance it is a NIGHTMARE to clean even with a knife poking in around the nooks and crannies. Matthew's last time in it he projectile vomited all over it and it was horrible trying to clean it.

i started putting max in his when he was about 4 months, (not for more than about 10 mins at a time tho) i had to prop him up with a blanket in the front, and of course he couldnt walk in it yet, but he loved pressing the buttons on the tray bit, now he goes in for a little while each day and he zooms round the house or the patio outside :) its one of the few things that keeps him occupied for more than 2 minutes!

they're banned in canada - which really sucks because I know my LO would LOVE one. and my back is getting sore from holding his hands so he can stand all the time

It really bothers me that they banned them for this reason - once they can walk on their own they can fall down stairs and reach dangerous things too... baby proof and keep an eye on your baby and it's all preventable!

They were legal when I was a baby and my mom said I was in one all the time and loooved it.

Bekkie are Jumperoo's also banned? That be a secon best thing to get him if they not, saves your back & he'll love that just the same, Korben loves his just gets bored pretty easy takes after his dad at that age x
