When is it ok to say if they don't eat they dont get anything else ?

im just desperate for her to eat something/anything , its so hard when they dont talk enough to explain why she doesnt want it

Ruby does sometimes not her cereal that she asked for, and then asks for toast. I say no. She usually then eats her cereal and is then full and forgets about toast.

I don't cajole her to eat but I make it clear that we don't ask for foods unless we are going to eat them. I don't mind her having fruit if she hasn't eaten her dinner (which is more or less never anyway) because it is nutritious.

I don't really offer my son an alternative to his meals. If he doesn't eat what I made for lunch or dinner then I put it away and if he starts asking for food I give him his plate. I don't want him to get in the habit of wasting food. If he keeps refusing it then I just make something else.

Now if he is refusing it and saying he wants cake instead then I definitely ignore those requests and tell him he gets no dessert until he eats what I made. Thankfully though he is starting to get out of his picky eating phase.

Sophie used to be a brilliant eater but she has started to become very fussy a tea time, because she eats so well the rest of the day I never offer her an alternative, I know certain foods she doesn't like so I never offer those, but I try to get her involved in cooking and choosing our tea, I found making pizzas are always a good one and you can load them with lots of veggies. Sophie really enjoys this and eats loads as she knows she's made it. Even getting them involved in silly little things like getting the pots/pans or food out xx

I don't tell the boys that if they don't eat they can't have anything else but from the time they started eating they didn't eat between meals unless it is 'snack time'. They have their meals at the same time each day which I think helps a lot
