When is it time to go to the Doctors do you think?

In a few weeks, I'm about to come up to a year of ttc. In that year, I've had one mc in April and nothing else.

I turn 35 round about the same time, and my DH is 44.

Do you think it's time I asked the Doc for some basic blood tests etc?

Would they usually consider doing this after a yr of trying? I would also like my DH's sperm to be tested.

I had a scan today as I've had spotting and very painful AF's since mc, but everything seems to look ok.

Thanks

Most DR's would advise if you have been TTC for a year without much success then they would suggest starting with some basic tests. Thats what my sister was told when she had no luck TTC.

The fact that you got PG is a good sign even though it ended badly. It means you can conceive which is half the battle.

No harm in popping along to the dr for advice xxx

I agree, a year of ttc is long enough to ask for some tests. But -as stupid as that sounds- you know that you can conceive and that's a really good start. Hope you get some answers at the doctors.

I don't think its ever too early to spesk to your doc, even if he/she doesn't do anything right now they will log your appointment which will definately help in the future.xxxxx

Hi Sugar love x

I'm 29, dh 32. We had his sperm tested after 12m of trying, we just asked the doc and he was absolutely fine with it.

Also had my bloods done at the same time - hormones, prog, lh ad all that jazz

I would ask your doc and be persistent. If they refuse, go to a different doctor. You can always stretch the truth re amount of time trying.

We had our recurrent mc tests today too (after 2 mc's, even though the rule is 3). I am very persuasive and am good at getting what I want!

Yout fertility takes a nose dive 10 years before your mother had the menopause - find out this date and if appropriate, mention to your doctor as additoinal ammo. (eg, my Mum had MP at 48, so my fertility takes a nose dive at 38 or thereabouts)

Just re-read your post - did they check your cervix shape/position at the scan? An unusual uterus can make carrying a pregnancy difficult.

thanks for the replies lovely ladies. I will book an appt and have a chat with the Doc.

Kanga, the woman doing mu ultrasound yesterday said that everything looked fine, no polyps, ovaries normal etc.

I'm just worried about the spotting I keep getting a week before AF starts and really vicious pain on some months of AF starting.

Perhaps the basic tests are a good place to start.

Hi - I am forty, had mmc in feb with no joy on the TTC front. I am concerned as I tend to spot four five days before AF and had read this was to do with low progesterone. I booked an appointment with the docs, at the insistence of a friend as she knew I was so worried. Anyhow, the doctor was wonderful, unprompted, she ordered full blood tests. Also When I had my son three years ago, they discovered fibroids, one grew quite large with the pregnancy. So, she has also booked me for a pelvic ultrasound next week, just to check their current status. She also examined me, cant feel any obvious lumps and bumps thankfully. On top of this, she has also booked me into the fertlity unit at the hospital (Lord knows how long that waiting list is!), not because she thinks anything is wrong, but just so I can be assured by specialists, have a chat as she says, to help me.
Upshot was, all blood tests came back perfect, and my day 21 progesterone came back a whopping 74.3 nmol/l - They say over 30 shows ovulation. Many people have a BFP at that level (most people have this sort of level on Clomid, but this was au naturel!), but started spotting as per usual 4 days before AF, so defo not down to low progesterone...

She says if all ok, after the tests, she will review in another six months in view of my age.
I am sure after a year, your doc will be very helpful, good luck x

Hi ladies

I went to my Doc recently - after 8 months TTC - and he said the local health trust don't do tests until 18 months. This is East London, so it might be different in York. Might be worth a little fib to get your referral made!

My OH has been referred by his Doc for sperm analysis.

We've decided to give it a couple more months and then if no BFP to look into how much it costs to get the initial tests done privately as I'm 38 and he's 46.

Still not giving up hope for this month yet though!! xx:dust:
