When should we get checked?

We have a 9 yr old, so I know we can have kids. But for the past 8 years we haven't used any kind of bc other than the pull-out method. Once in a while we didn't even use that. Now this past year we've been really trying to get pregnant. I got pregnant back in May, but just as we found out I was I had a mc at week 5. My dr said I wasn't really pregnant. So I guess we've been trying for a fairly long time. Well, if you want to count the past 8 years of "whatever happens, happens". I was just wondering though, When should we go to the dr to have everything checked out? It is so frustrating to not get anywhere when it seems like all of your friends and family are having babies and getting pregnant a month after they decide to start trying.

Hi bunny_84,

Sorry to hear that after having a child now you meet the problem with getting pregnant. According to me you are ready to arrange a visit to the doctor.

It is very difficult to watch other people happy with there children. I am 29. Married almost 8 years. Trying for 6. I had chemical pregnancy last June. Our first :bfp: after 5.5 years of trying.

Good luck to you. Hope you get your positive soon.

The general rule of thumb is that you should go to the doctor after a year of trying, or 6 months of trying if you are over 35.

I have been told I have to wait for a year after my miscarriage, which I personally think is ridiculous. I think, in your case, you should go see a doctor if you are ready to. You've been off bc for long enough, and hopefully you will have a supportive doctor who is willing to be proactive, rather than reactive.
