Haven't a clue so just curious as to when you need to move up from teat size 1?

well if I remember correctly size 1 is for the first month -or it was on our bottles. We switched at 3 weeks.

My OH is just feeding LO with a new bigger teat! We use MAM bottles and the size 2 teat is advised from 2 months, our LO is 3 months...he never got frustrated at the smaller teat so we left it. Only bought size 2 to see how he got on and its no different!

I'm just looking forward to moving up a teat size so he will feed quicker. At the moment, it takes about half an hour :)

We use avent bottles and I think we moved from size 1 to 2 at around 6 weeks old but she's now 6 months and STILL on size 2! We've got size 3 and tried her with them but she just dribbles the whole bottle and then is still starving at the end cos she never actually drank much! Lol. She seems happy with the size 2's for now though, she isn't having to suck too hard or anything. We've also tried the variable teats but she doesn't seem to get the hang of those either!

i changed when dd started sucking really hard, there was no bubbles flowing and the teat was squished  as i hadnt a clue then when i gave her a size 3 teat it was too big and she coughed lol so we are using size 2 at the minute :p

my dd is the same, she is on size 2 avent teats as size 3 is way too big and the milk goes everywhere...what is the variable teats? :hugs:

I've noticed a few times that the teat is popped down on itself (if you get what I mean?) when I pull it out to burp him so maybe this is a sign he needs the next size up? I'm using Avent size 1 at the moment x

My midwife said they should drink quicker than 30 mins which is what our LO was taking. She went to size 2 around 5 weeks I think.

It sounds like you might need to try the size 2 teat, you will notice the difference when you do, feeding doesnt take as long lol if its too big just go back to size 1 :flower:

I use the Avent bottles and moved to a size 3 teat about a month ago? She was collapsing the nipple on the size 2's and was taking forever to eat. Size 3's made it soooo much easier on her.

Hey, the variable teats have a sort of slit instead of a hole. Supposedly the baby controls how much milk they get by how hard they suck etc but all she did when we tried them was dribble it out everywhere again. They're meant to be good for thicker liquids like if you have to use hungry milk or add a thickening agent. We add gaviscon to our lo's bottles for reflux which is why we tried them but like I said didn't get on with them.

Thanks for getting back to me :flower: I doubt they would be any good for my lo neither, she is still on cow and gate stage 1 :hugs:

We haven't switched yet. We use MAM bottles with the size 1 teats. He finishes his bottle quite quickly and doesn't get frustrated so we're waiting for him to show us signs of needing to change xo

It depends on how fast your baby drinks if LO isn't ready for a bigger size they will gag and throw up.

We're at 16 weeks tomorrow and still use a combination of Boots variable flow teats (which are really good) and MAM/TT stage 1's. I honestly completely forgot there are different stages because we mostly use the variflos. She still drains her bottles in about 15 min on the stage 1's so will keep it the same for a little while longer.

we decided to change because our Lo was talking a long time to finnish his bottles and getting tired during feeds so we tried bigger teats and so far so good. we swicthed 5days ago (when he was just over 9weeks) to tommee tippee variflow.
